We are on our first year north of Aspermont on our new place we bought over the summer. It's only 82 acres but we have put a lot into it. We planted oats and wheat in September which is coming up nicely. Cleaned out the stock tank, clear brush, made roads, put in feeder and blind. Seeing decent stuff at night but very little during daylight hours. Hunted this weekend with only a couple of does and yearling buck seen while in blind. Be in stand all week. Any day at the place is better than a day at work but trying hard to be patient since not seeing much. Hopefully the cold front will bring more in. Place hasn't been hunted in a while so unsure what to expect and not sure what is typical around here or when the rut is typically.

And, on top of everything else, I still pretty new to deer hunting. This is my 3rd year and really haven't had a whole lot of guidance

Just keep hunting, one hour can change everything you think about the spot.
The foodplots etc are good things, but the clearing brush/building roads part can do a lot to spook deer. Next year might be a lot better than this one.
Also, what you see on 82 acres probably has a lot to do with the properties surrounding you. If they blast everything that moves, you could be out of luck. If there is large acreage with low hunting pressure, and you property becomes enticing enough to deer, you could do very well.
Just my thoughts.
Good luck.

Thanks. There is not much hunting pressure around so we are hopeful. Got 2 nice shooters coming in the food plot at night so we shall see

Hang in there, when they start moving during the day you need too be in place.

I was wondering how some of the brush clearing would affect our game but we had absolutely no roads so had perimeter road put in and road to stock tank out in as well as new well, stock tank cleaned out with lots of drainage work done and septic tank put in. We are seeing more deer on our game cams than I expected but mostly all nocturnal. My son did take a nice doe on youth weekend which was great. It's just nice to own our own place and be able to mold it into what we want. Now I just got to be more patient.

I hunt Stonewall Cty north of Old Glory. Very slow for us as well. Everything is still nocturnal. We didn't even see any pigs which is very unusual. Think I'm going to head out tomorrow for an evening hunt.

I don't smoke ,so I can't say but I highly doubt it. I do know a loud fart works! I think they like the smell plus I guess they think it's a buck grunt.

New moon is tough this time of year. With the shorter days and full moon on the 17th, it should get good the week before Thanksgiving weather pending of course.

How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?

I really wouldn't sweat it so much, just keep hunting. What else you gonna do, sale the place ?
Sounds like you've set the place up right for the long term, but with that much change on the land it could be awhile before they calm down and settle back in, I think.
At the same time if a big old buck walks out in front of you next month, it could sure change your outlook real fast.

hunted stonewall for 6 years. 3000 acres little pressure, first two weeks are were always slow. Thanksgiving to middle of Dec. were the best times for us.

Appreciate the input. I'm definitely not throwing in the towel. I love it out here and think it will all pay off in the long run. Although most activity at night, it is promising that we are seeing activity

Bucks are starting to move around but the does arent too receptive yet, the cold front tonight and hopefully next week should help with getting them moving during the day. Im heading out in a few to see whats moving. Supposed to have a chance to freeze by 6am definately be a good time to be near a feeder.

Watched a doe in my food plot for about 25 minutes before dark hoping that soon the boys will follow but no such luck. Try again in the morning
