Went duck hunting this morning, didn't have any luck.

As we were leaving we stumbled upon 10 of these

This was the first turkey I have ever shot...and it turned out to be a nice jake- 6 inch beard and probably weighed around 25 lbs

Turned an otherwise dissapointing hunt into an unforgettable morning.

Congratulations, you have me beat.

OK. I am new to Turkeys. I am going to attempt to take one this year.
What is the difference in a Jake and Tom?
I had thought a Jake didn't have a beard.

Jakes ussually have a small beard of some kind and the tail feathers are longer in the middle 4 or 5 feathers. The bird in the pics looks like a tom to me at least what i can see from the fan.

I agree w/Hoyt. 6" beard, 25 lbs., & the pic. says it's a tom. Nice bird, cable!!!

thanks for the insight...i guess i didn't know the diff between a jake and a tom...i kept the tail and beard, and the bird was over 25 lb,

is a jake an immature male turkey or just one that genetically will never be at the top?

watched a show on turkey tonight on the History channel and it said that a turkey would take years to get to 25lb in the wild, if it weighed that much he was a TOM....congrats, I've never killed a Tom and is my goal this year...
