well, a spot opened up on a lease my buddy is on. approx. 4k acres. really good deal, year round. he's allowing a friend and myself to split the lease spot, and split tags. perfect for my first lease... and only 45 miles from my home near Robert lee!

going out there this weekend to get my feeder up.. I know, VERY late start, but it's better than nothing.

quick question. will a pen made of the welded wire 4 foot tall be enough to keep cows out? he's only got about 20 head roaming the entire place... just trying to save a couple bux. cattle panel would be around 100$ to buy. a roll of 100 feet of welded wire is 40$

thanks!

That wire will work fine for cows, pigs not so much.

Good luck

That's plenty tall. We run hog panels and they keep the cows out just fine.

Congrats on the lease.

thanks. I was just wondering about strength.. no pigs on the property as of right now, but we'll see. I know they're in the area.

Congrats on the lease. The welded wire will work if you run a barbwire right along the top for more strength. Just make sure you have good tight corners and you will be fine with it.

I would forgo the welded wire and just put up fence post and string about 4 rows of cheap barbed wire. Done this several times and it works great for cows, and lets the hogs in....I like to shoot hogs too!

I've done welded wire myself and it works good against hogs, not as good against cows, they still jump mine from time to time, though it was only 36". I think 42-48" would be more deterrent than that. Key is to keep it tight and it should work at 48".

Good luck and dont feel bad about the late start. We leased our place out this year in Coleman and i just found my new hunting property the other day right out side of Bronte, TX... I put up a feeder 4 days ago.. Best of luck to you this year..

And be sure your pen is big enough so that your feeder does not throw corn outside of it. Once those cows get a taste of corn, they want more and will push on the fence until they grt there,

Used to hunt on part of the old Chadbourne Ranch outside of Bronte. Pigs everywhere!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, beer in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.

Actually if you get enough hog pannels to keep the deer unspooked, it would be more like 200 bucks

unspooked? Is that a word? Nevertheless, I like it.

Glad you get to enjoy the outdoors hunting this season.... if your quiet enough you may slip up on a buck when going to put your feeder up....may not need to put it up.... I know wishful thinking but hey it could happen.... Good Luck This Year

well I got the feeder pen up Saturday. really nice area. there was a tall 4x6 blind that is usable right where I wanted to set up. gotta put some windows in it but that's about it!

ended up using the welded wire fence, and I think it's going to be ok. we put t posts about every 4 feet smile I don't want to drive any more t posts for a while.

didn't see anything as we did it in the middle of the day, but there were tracks all over the place. I don't think lack of deer will be an issue.

We have cows on our place and I just use 2 strings of barb wire and string stays. Just make sure wire wire stays tight and you won't have any issues. Every now and then a calf get in, but their not big enough to hurt anything.
