where are you located?
if you're near farm land, most will let you hunt for free, and some pay

there are plenty of free places to hunt hog. you have to do your homework. texas parks and wildlife website has a lot of info.
PS it pays to get out of the house and do real scouting vs cyber scouting.

Get an annual public hunting permit. TPWD will provide you with 2 booklets. There is many places to hunt for hogs. Most units won't allow rifles, only bow but just spend $48 bucks and hit the woods.
A good hog is a dead one.

If you watch you can get a hunt from free to $250 for more than one. I personaly would rather go on a day hunt than trek all over public land with the idiots.

I checked out a few outfitters a couple years ago and this is what I came up with:
OK, let's start with the hunt price. Reasonable @ $200.00 for two days. Actually, that's cheap. Next, let's add on the lodging and meals, @100.00 per day ($200.00 total). I don't need that so no problem, Then we come to trophy fees, @ $1.00 per pound over 100 lbs. ( say you take two hogs, two days, at 150 lbs apiece (unreasonable ?) That's an extra $200.00. Then we have the guide fee of $ 75.00 per day for two days. ($150.00 total) Then there is a fee for skinning the animals, usually $25.00 per animal (total $50.00 per day) A bargain to say the least. And last, the gratuities, somewhere in the range of $150.00). That's reasonable. Takes a lot of folks to keep us in line. Now, lets add all this up/ Hunt..............$200.00 Meals................00.00 Trophy fees $200.00 Guide fee......$150.00 Skinning.......$100.00 Gratuities.....$150.00
Grand total.. $800.00
Needless to say I did not go hunting.

Huh? I've seen hog hunts go for 150 - 180 for the weekend. I think it would run you a little under 300 without meals for a weekend hunt. 300 - 400 with meals. Yeah I agree it might be pricey for a hog hunt but most of the land in Texas is private and it's hard to get access unless you lease, have relatives with land, or know someone.

Thanks altez and Frisbee89. I guess I just didn't look hard enough. So lets take off 2 of the hogs and make both of them under the minimum for paying trophy fees. (125 lbs ?) Then I could go for an unguided hunt, no blind or feeder or transport to and from the hunting area. I could skin and quarter the animals my self and save the fee for that. I could not, for the life of me go home without leaving a gratuity of some sort. The only problem with all that is I cannot walk. I am stuck in a wheelchair, so I need the transport, the guide, the skinning and quartering. And if I only get one chance a year to hunt I'm going to sign up with an outfit that allows me 2 animals per day. I might add that there are some outfits that do not charge trophy (over 125 lbs) but in researching some of these places I find the hunter success is low and the size is also low. I'm kind of between a rock and a hard place but that's the way it goes. Thanks anyway.

skookumchuck Bro I am not the cheapest guide in TX, but for $500 you get 3 days 2 nights lodge, meals, transportation, no kill limit, no kill fees, no hiden fees on top. Skin and 1/4 on Ice is 20-50$ per hog. 50 would be for like 250 lbs with cape.

That's a pretty good price TXPH. I got a wheelchair lift put on my caregivers car last week and I'm going to be paying it off for the next 2 years, but when I'm done I'll start saving for a trip. Actually it won't take 2 years cause I had a little bit to put down. Thanks for the offer.
