This is exactly what came to my mind ^^^ Going to be a great place next year. You will most likely have to deal with some sort of livestock or nuisance on any lease. If its not goats then, cattle, horses, or pigs. Hope you didn't burn the bridge. He obviously doesn't have an interest in hunting or he wouldn't lease the place and just didn't think about your deer season when he had to do something with his goats or trying to improve the place. Think about if someone was doing something for recreation in your place of work even if they were paying you to be there. First things come first and in ranching as any other business what makes money is first priority. Whenever we move cattle pasture to pasture it can upset your hunt or feeders but it doesn't mean the deer are just never coming back or aren't there. I cannot imagine this was some sort of move to get you off his place unless you gave him a reason to mess with you but even then just business.

Hunted 700 acres south of Ranger hill in Eastland county for 7-8 years in the 60's that had 200 goats or so and we had good hunting. Had post and live oak and the goats kept the trees trimmed so you could see under them.

I've never hunted around goats, so forgive my ignorance. Will the goats dominate the territory? Based on what you posted, it sounds like you won't hunt if you can't bait. I'm not against baiting, but I doubt I'd throw away my lease because I couldn't do it. My apologies if I'm wrong.

Pulling the trigger on some ranchers goat can become an expensive purchase. But then goats in the pasture can be hilarious if the hunters are inexperienced. In 1969 we had a lease southwest of Abilene, these young airmen from Dyess AFB were on the adjoining place, there was a common road that went by their camp to our part of the ranch. Opening morning was quiet, not a shot heard, but Saturday afternoon a war erupted in the next pasture where the airmen were. After we quit for the day we drove by to see what they had shot. Fresh cabrito was hanging in the trees, they had shot some goats. Luckily I knew the rancher pretty well, those goats were cheap, but knowing the old man, he probably would have charged triple or more if I had not intervened.

They are a pain to hunt with sometimes but it can be done!

I hunt with 50 head of boar goats and 30 head of hair sheep of my brother in laws coming to my feeder 2 times a day. Deer don't pay them no mind. You can get wire panels in 4x4 squares that are 15 ft long and 5 ft high for $38. Heck last yr Bucks would smell the goat does and come in.

Are you 100% sure that these goats didn't wander from a neighboring property? I once hunted on a lease where as the sun rose one morning I noticed hundreds of goats all around me plus two Great Pyrenees dogs watching the goats that started barking at me. It ruined my morning hunt but they were all gone when I returned in the afternoon. It turns out that they wandered over from a neighboring property even though the property was fenced.
