The lady that plants my food plots on my little property in Coke county is not happy with the way our oats have come in, pretty sparse! She is over-seeding with barley today. Barley does seem to be high in protein but i have not heard of i being used in food plots. Anyone have any experience with it?

None personally but I ordered some for a man who planted in a food plot on a HF ranch up around Leakey. Said all the exotics and WT loved it.

Had some planted on a farm I worked for several years ago and the WT stayed in it.

It's been my experience over the years that deer as well as sheep and goats prefer oats over any other small grains or rye grasses for winter grazing but cattle not so much. In any case barley is better than nothing.

Rye grass and grain rye are very different in their palatabilty to deer. Grain rye also is palatable for a much longer period.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype
