Had 4 dads, 2 moms, 2 grandads, and 6 kiddos out. Set up Friday afternoon camp overlooking our spot with about 150-200 mixed gads, widg, teal, and bbwd. Got all the chirrens to bed and watched the fire burn out with momma. We built a blind just forte kiddo hunt. Low front with oleanders overhanging the back to conceal the movement of three shooters. It was if it flies it dies morning. It was One of the kids first hunt and he got a coot. No body in his family hunts but the dad came with us. Even if it was a coot, he was pumped! Scratched out 4 teal, 2 pins, 5 coots. All on the wing with 410s. Was slower than expected. We listened to the birds feed in the millet all night and they blew out early and only about 1/3 came back. All in all enough to keep everybodys attention till 9.

Nicely done,
I love to see the kiddos getting out. And all shot on the wing!! WTG!
I like how you explained the coot in the picture before you got dog piled by the crowd...reminds me of a picture I posted with a group of guys I took out they ended up with a bunch of birds and a couple coots...well you know the rest.

Coots get no pAsses on our place. Bout to do blackened teal, pintail, and coot. Gonna see if there's much difference. Got a feeling its all gonna taste like duck. Meats a little darker but a whole lot more delicate.

Meats a little darker but a whole lot more delicate. 3 seasons ago my dogs most impressive retrieves were on 2 coots on a cold sleety Thanksgiving morning. We had one teal and my buddy said he didn't care what bird flew by next he was going to kill it just to warm up. Well 2 coots come to us and I started laughing and said here you go. Well he killed them both. I laughed and rode his donkey about killing them. At first I told him he was going to have to get them because I wasn't going to let my dog pick up coots Anyway, she made to long retrieves in current and figured and and swam to cut them off. I was impressed. Well a week later I get a call telling me he wasn't passing on anymore coots that you couldn't tell the difference. So next trip he killed 2 more. Of course I'm still laughing and harassing him about them...he calls me later and tells me the coots are definitely off the kill list that those two tasted like mud and he wasn't rolling anymore coots I don't think he has killed a coot since those two so they must've really tasted like shat. Oh and cool on the kids hunt, sounds like you had a good start to the season!

Finished the weekend getting my oldest one his first deer. He's been shooting ducks with a 410 so the recoil from the 20 with 3" #2 buck surprised him.
