What do you guys use for rifle cleaning solvents?
Do you use something different specifically for copper fouling?

I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

I've been using Ed's Red minus the lanolin. The recipie is online. Works well when shooting dirty ammo like old surplus as it has cut my cleaning time down.
I use the hoppes copper formula for copper. I don't use it often. Probably a better product out there, but its on hand and paid for.

MPro7

It is a carbon remover. I use it all the time on the action, and bolt. Occasionally on muzzle brakes, and rarely on the bore.

I never remove copper fouling.

The simple answer - yes.

I use Barnes CR-10 to remove copper first. Then I follow up with a common Hoppe's solvent to remove carbon fouling.

I should add that I recently added a bore guide to my gun cleaning essentials and wish I had done it a long time ago. It really makes if easy to get a cleaning rod through the bore and into the barrel without fear of damage to either.

Just completed a new AR in 6.8. Barrel manuf. told me use one of the foaming bore cleaners for copper and a good carbon cleaner. I use Gunslick foam and Mpro7 cleaner, followed by Mpro7 oil as the final coat.

Wipe-out. Period. I recently picked up a bottle of Patch Out which is basically the non-foam version, and I think it works even better. I've used a couple passes of CR-10 for really fouled up guns in years past but for the most part, Wipe-Out/Patch-Out is all I use.

Shooters Choice or Hoppes for carbon fouling, and Sweets 7.62 for copper fouling. Will use Barnes if Sweets is difficult to find, but I like Sweets better.

Yes, a light coat. Some cleaners, like Hoppes, need oil to "kill" the harmful residue left over. Also prevents rust. Lifelong practice.

Shooters choice patches until clean then sweets to clean out any small amount of copper that may be built up. No oil unless it's being stored for a while. CLP for any oiling needs.

I've read about cleaning bores quiet a bit on this forum as well as a few others. Most of the guys in the know clean their bores rather infrequently. I'm gonna quit cleaning my rifle bores as a standard practice after I shoot. I may clean them after hunting season, before I put them up for the off season, but I'm not gonna clean them after I shoot as a standard practice. I believe its unnecessary and probably hurts accuracy more than it helps. Some of the guys who post here talk about only cleaning their bores after 500 or so rounds, that's a bunch of hunting seasons. I'm gonna clean the bolt and wipe everything down but leave the bores fouled for hunting season.

This sums up my routine pretty well. Except for the copper removal. I don't worry so much about copper except in one .22 match rifle and only after I notice group degradation. I also run a couple dry patches through a barrel before I quit. I like the temp ranges for CLP as a lubricant and it has adequate staying power for safe storage corrosion prevention.

Ill run a snake thru my bore maybe twice a year or so . Depending on how much I shoot . Which was every weekend for a long time

I don't always clean my rifles but when I do I use CR-10 or Wipe-Out. The CR-10 isn't for the faint of heart because you can frost the bore. But it works VERY VERY Well for pulling copper.
