Treed one with dogs while coon hunting in high school. First and only one I have seen in my 40 years in East Texas.

I saw one this past spring crawling around the Oasis overlooking Lake Travis. It walked along a ledge over outdoor seating near where Uncle Billy's used to be, stopped and checked out the people, left its scent on the wall and walked off. It was about 9 or 10 in the evening. Huge eyes, it was pretty cool to see one.

I was hunting in Coleman county. Camping under an old barn. Had gotten my buck the night before so I did not get up for the morning hunt. My buck was skinned and hanging under the barn about 10 feet from where I was sleeping on the ground. Woke up and started hearing a strange noise. Looked over and there was a ring tail cat eating on the left ham of my deer. It saw me move and walked about halfway to where I was laying. Got up on its hind legs for a better look about 5 feet away. Beautiful animal. Hung around for about 5 minutes trying to figure out what the heck I was. Never did act scared. Just curious. I bet they would make a great pet.

We've got quite a few in my area. We don't shoot them. Neat little critters.

See them occasionally on my ranch in San Saba County (usually spotted in pairs), but I don't allow anyone to shoot them.

In Cherokee now and saw more ring tailed crap on rocks than I have ever seen in my life. They are alive and well in san Saba co.

I've never seen one in Anderson or Cherokee county with 35 years in the woods.

Used to have those everywhere at our Ranch in Eldorado, but I figured they had gone the way of the horney toad and disappeared. Well, saw a horney toad in the road a while ago then accidently caught a ringtail while trying to coons. The ringtail is still alive but the coons didn't make it.

We started an intense "raccoon removal project" on our place 2 years ago and immediately started seeing results. After catching 100 coons on 2000 acres we started seeing more turkey, rabbits, birds, lizards, etc. I figure 2000 pounds of raccoon sweeping across the pasture every night probably wiped out everything, including baby ringtails.

We used to get them all the time when we walked the creeks spotlighting varmints. They would bring $15-$20 each and a big coon would bring $45. That was the late 70's. I miss those days.

I have only seen 1 around where I am in Fairfield. It has been about 10 years ago and I decided not to shoot it because they are pretty rare around here. I also thought that they were protected species.

I've trapped them inadvertently in Concho, McChulloch, Mason, Llano and Runnels counties.

When I was in high school we would shoot one spot lighting every now and then.

I wouldn't shoot one now if I saw one.
