What time do you guys set up to hunt.

When hunting public waters and you've scouted and area, would it do any good to place some type of markers (tape) at the area you’re planning to hunt or is it pretty much first come first serve.

Also while at the location you’re hunting do you guys set up a small lantern of sort or just flashlight an approaching hunter.

Time- really depends on what public you're hunting and weekday or weekend. If its a fairly busy weekend spot probably around 4AM. If its close and good your looking at 1-2 AM.

Putting out marking tape will only invite more people and lead them right to your spot. There is no such thing as "MY" spot on public.

If you are set up and someone comes in, first come first serve. Best bet is to flashlight em. If they keep coming and set up close, offer to share the spot. 95% of the time it's the best option.

Alot of what i've been reading and talking with people more than half will will be setting up around 12Am - 1Am . . As far as the tape an markers I guess that depends on where your going an how far in to me that might just leave a trail for others to follow in an or set up on that spot earlier than you one day . I don't know all I know is a few are pretty competitive when it comes to spot holding or sitting . But i guess you have to be if you wanna hunt or be on a prime location . If they come to same spot as you or close offer to share the same location with them

A lot of times I went the night before and just layed down on the ground. It is a rough night but if the birds are there then they are there and you have to do what you got to do.

Like everyone said, if its kinda easy to get to and it holds birds, it will probably be crowded. Opening weekend on public I would be there between 3-4. Not a lot worse than showing up late and having someone in "your" spot, the watching them limit out on "your" ducks.

As far as the tape goes, that's a bad idea. Don't leave your dekes out to hold your spot either, they will probably get stole or moved. The only thing that saves your spot on public is you.
