So Christmas is right around the corner and I'm gonna buy my nephew his first rifle. I was originally thinking about a .243 for him because that's what my first rifle was and I think it's a good round for a young kid that is just gonna be deer and hog hunting with it. But a buddy of my dads is selling a 7mm Mini Mag for just about dirt cheap, cheap enough where I think I'm gonna buy it even if it isn't a good gun for my nephew and just keep it for myself. But I have never personally heard of them. Yall have any info on them? Good, bad or otherwise? Is it a good gun for a kid to take his first deer with? Any info is GREATLY appreciated as I know I do not know near as much about guns as most of you do! Thanks to all!

Me either. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist, though but I'll bet it's something else.

X2 and a great option that extends his animal size with minimal recoil increase

Looks like it's a 7mm-08, based on my searching. Damn fine cartridge, too.

Just make sure you know what cartridge it is really chambered for, before you stick something in the chamber and pull the trigger!!

Just curious, do you know what kind of rifle it is? Bolt action, lever, auto? Brand?

I was shooting a 30-06 at 12, I don't think a 7mm WSM would have bothered me.
