I have seen four mountain lions in my 40 years of hunting. One near Alpine Texas, one near Gillette Wyoming, and two in the Throckmorton Texas area. All were on large ranches. The Throckmorton ranch was only 6000 acres but there was about 20,000 acres adjacent to it... three sides bordered by even larger ranches. My nephew was in a deer blind in Throckmorton and a mountain lion walked in front of the blind. He did not shoot it because I had not given him permission to shoot a lion...

Grew up in South Texas. Seen tracks 3 times on family farm when I was a kid and 3 other time in South Texas. Had 2 lions killed within 4 miles of my parents home growing up. Hunted all over the state. Been on ranches where they have killed them and seen them. Managed ranches for 20+ years. I have never seen a lion. I saw what could have been one on a foggy, drizzly night one time but can't swear to it.

I have only seen two of them.
Medina County. One walked right across a sendero that my daughter and I were deer hunting on, he was gone as quick as he showed up.
Bandera County. This one I actually walked up on while my brother and I were stalking deer. He was 50 yards away and had he no idea we were there. By the time I gathered myself he was gone also.
No real chance to get a shot at either one.

I've seen one that was close to the Colorado river north of Brady. It was laying in a wheat field and rolled around on it's back like a giant kitty. As soon as I stopped the truck at about 40 yards, he jumped up and hightailed it across the open field. This was on 377 near the 'Geographic center of Texas' historical marker and picnic area.

In my 52 years I've seen 3. All in Bastrop County. Last one was about 6 years ago. Lions have a huge roaming area; miles. Neighbors once saw lioness with several cubs walk across our yard one morning. They're around, you just don't see um!

I saw one that had been hit by a vehicle on IH 20 near Kent, Tx. I saw another when I went on a lion hunt with a trapper in the Davis mountains. Nice hunt, the hounds had the lion treed in short order. Small lion, but it was his job to take them out.

We have seen tracks on our lease in Medina County in the past year but have never physically seen one.

I've been told that my great uncle Marvin killed one on his ranch in Stephens County in the 60's. Dad purchased that land in 72. I definitely saw one 12 years ago but no chance at a shot. Uncle Junior shot at one 9 years ago

Two years ago we killed six on our ranch alone. Last year I killed one on a neighbors ranch for him. Trapped a cub this Feb. Hunting two lions right now on two different ranches.

Seen a few while hog hunting on the Callahan ranch in South Texas but could never get into bow range. Also have seen them on a ranch East of Rice Tx, while working cattle out of the brush. Let me tell ya they will spook a horse. Would love to harvest one.

Man sound like you have the cats in your area. I have never seen one. Would love to one day.

There's been reports of sightings in Parker county. Ive seen one at our place in Johnson county actually, big bellied sucker, my pa claims he saw a black one while driving the back roads above the Brazos. Said it jumped in the middle of the road and as quick as it did, turned around and jumped back into the brush.

I had a friend on FB post a pic of one that was caught in a snare around fishermans paradise and the farmer that caught it had been having a lot of cows go missing .

Not a very good one and i have no clue as to whether it's true but the one that posted it is pretty reliable.

Wouldn't doubt it. I live five minutes from fishermans paradise used to know some people down there that seen one at the entrance taking a bath in a fountain

The owner of the 100 acre ranch I hunt in north Coryell County showed me a photo of one at his stock tank from 18 months ago. I found tracks over at Belton Lake about 3 years ago in the Miller Springs nature park. Haven't seen any myself though.

I've only seen one. That was in Kemp, Texas about 6 years ago. Beautiful animal. It was less than a hundred yards away but rather than shoot at it, I was more amazed at seeing one. When I decided to take a shot it was in the trees and gone.

Why do you need permission to shoot a mountain lion?

Because he was being respectful of the parameters under which he was hunting. He isn't going to shoot anything for which he doesn't have permission to shoot.

I have seen two south of throckmorton, both males marking territory. And two at box canyon (amistad) right outside of the housing addition . Driving out looking to the left at the tree line . I was spotlighting them and they walked from the tree line right in front of my truck and towards the canyon. They didnt act bothered by the light at all.
