So this weekend turned out to be one for the ages… story starts on opening morning. I’m sitting in my ground blind when 3 bucks walk out, one of them being a very good buck we’ve had pics of on trail cams since June. He stops at 20 yds broadside for a perfect shot, I draw back and let it fly, but the bucks hears the shot and ducks the arrow, when he ducks he drops and turns right, putting his right antler where his shoulder just previously was. Unbelievably the arrow sticks his antler and stays in place as he runs off (perfectly unharmed besides 29” of carbon stick back from his right beam). At this point I’m bummed out, I’ve just missed what would have been my first buck with a bow and biggest buck to date. This buck now earned himself a nickname that would stick forever, “the G5 buck”, because it was a G5 broad head that stuck in his antler. But little did I know what was coming almost a month later… Saturday morning my dad is sitting in a ground blind not 300 yds from where “G5” and me had our tango. He sees “G5” coming in to get a bite to eat but gets no shot as the buck comes straight to the feeder without stopping. This feeder is pinned in with hog panels, and my dad will not take a shot unless it is perfect, so he wouldn’t shoot the buck inside the pin. My dad always has his camera with him just to take pics of what he sees if he doesn’t shoot it, so he got some great pics of G5 eating and walking off.
The evening hunt rolls around and my dad goes to the same spot in hopes of getting a crack at “G5”. Sure enough he shows up at 6PM and he gets a good 18yd broadside shot. Arrow was a complete pass through covered in blood, looked like a good double lung shot and the buck will be laying dead within 100yd(little did we know). He calls me up to come and help him look for the buck. We gave him until dark to start looking for him. After 3 hours and at least a mile later we find him dead in some of the thickest brush you could imagine. Was one of the most rewarding tracking jobs/crawling on knees to look for blood. Couldn’t have been more excited to find that deer. And when we got our hands on him he had a G5 broad head buried in his right main beam, something like that only happens once in a lifetime.

Almost forgot...It was his first buck with a bow, and only second ever deer to kill with a bow.

Great story! Congrats on your Dad's first bow buck. What a bull of a body and his rack ain't shabby either! Lots of character. I guess your Dad owes you for the miss and then letting him take him down.
