I am going to buy my 10 year old son a deer rifle. Does. Anyone have any advice on the best place to get a youth gun. I am looking for a Savage or a Remington.

Academy tends to have the best prices around. I would also look at the tikka t3 hunter. With the wood stock you can cut it down a bit and later add the length back by using dowls. Or putting a different stock on it. I started my son out with a full size tikka 223 shooting prone. A big sack of potatoes makes for fun cheap targets that blow up and you don't have to pick up the mess.

I bought my son a Ruger American Compact in a 243 and it's a tackdriver. Couldn't be happier with it.

I bought my 10 year old son a ruger american compact in 308. Shoots well, and less felt recoil than the marlin 7-08 he had.

I would get either a 243 or 7mm08.

I wouldn't worry about getting a compact gun, every kid I know started shooting with a full size gun and they all did fine.

Academy seems to have quite a few youth models to choose from. I bought my wife (which I shoot often)a Howa 7mm 08 that I upgraded the scope on that has become a go to rifle in my arsenal. you really can't go wrong with the caliber for the price of bullets nowadays!!

243, or 7mm-08 youth model, when the kiddo's arms get longer swap out the stock, and you have an adult rifle.

Remington, Savage or Tikka, depending on your budget.

Got my daughter the win model 70 compact .243. Same components, including adjustable MOA trigger, as full size version. Whatever you decide, be sure to check the trigger weight and whether it is adjustable. Some of the youth guns I looked at had very heavy triggers which my daughter would have had to jerk to get to fire.
