I'm hunting a pretty good way from the closest place I can park, about a 1/3 of a mile. What do you haul your kill back with? Do I spend the money on a sled or a cart? Or should I just pack a tarp, throw him on it, and drag it back?
Sorry for the lame topic, just trying to come up with ideas...

I use a game carrier cart I bought from Cabelas if I can't get my Ranger to the spot.

1/3 mile? I'm with you, I'm not buying a sled as long as I'm physically able to drag a deer.

Cut front of knee cap. Tie back legs to back and front to front. Carry out like back pack

i use a game cart to haul my deer out if i'm walking .5 mile or more, and there is a trail to do so...i would not recommend putting a deer on your shoulders, lots of dumb hunters out there who may shoot at you.

I hope not, only place we hunt is family land and if my brother or dad is shooting at a deer levataing 6 foot of the ground on its side they need to put the bottle down!

Basically break the knee joint (do not cut it off though). Tie front legs together at joint, then do back legs same. Use the legs as your back pack straps. Try to get it higher your shoulders as possible. I'd gut it first though . Buck over 150 is a struggle though. Second option is use a pack that has a meat flap like elberstock or mystery ranch. You can strap the deer horizontal in the middle and carry it out that way. Thrid opinion is just quarter it up and haul out with frame pack

Tie it up in a tarp and drag it like a sled. I drug one about 1/2 mile on public land 10 years ago by the horns and it about killed me. Won't (probably couldn't)do that again.

Well thats why you wear bright orange, been doing it all my life haven't been shot at either, TX, Okla, CO. Guess all those guys that hunt out west should be dead?

Thrid opinion is just quarter it up and haul out with frame pack Another way is to break the joint at the knee ( or the hoof knuckle joint on smaller deer) and do not cut thru leaving as much skin and tendon connected at can. Take the back legs and cut a slot in like you would to hang a deer by the hind legs at the hocks. Take the right front leg and stick it thru the right rear leg opening you cut in the hock. Twist the front leg sideways. Do the left leg the same. Hang both over one shoulder and take off or make it like a backpack.

I pack in a canister of helium gas. Tie a string to the deer, pump the gas in between the skin and meat until it floats above the ground like a balloon. Real easy.

I used to grab a horn and drag. In California where I hunted with the steep mountains, other then quartering out, this was your only choice.
Then I bought a game carrier (used primarily as a decoy cart), but hauled out 2 deer on that. Worked fine, but had to go back to truck, get cart, hike bake to deer, haul it back to truck. Saved my back, but probably took same amount of time in the long run.
I also bought one of the "deer drag" from cabelas. It has the shoulder straps and waist belt. Gut the animal, tie the front feet to antlers, and rope from hauler onto antlers and start dragging.
