I really guess this will teach me to volunteer I was helping a buddy trim limbs off the roof of his house And a latch on the ladder broke lol. Anyway my question is has anyone ever tried to fit a release to their elbow that is long enough to hit the release with their pointer finger and still and had consistent groups? Really bummed out and trying to figure out somthing. Any help appreciated.

That sucks man!!! Sorry to hear that!!! Anytime you do anything different like that, it will be inconsistent unless you've practiced it for a while!!!

Listen you can hunt pigs and exotics anytime of year. Sit until the doc says you can go. Then hunt what you can. It's better for you in the long run.

Consistent groups did mean practice lol. It was worth a shot only time I've ever wished I had a cross bow. The only thing about it for my place its bow season or no season it's the only time I can hunt so there is no gum season or exotics. I wish there was.

@billybob I'm lucky to have never lost one with a bow probably because I refuse to shot more than 20 yards though.

Believe me boss. I hunted through two torn up shoulders and didn't have them fixed until I couldn't wipe my butt with them. It wasn't worth the long term problems. Let it heal and go exotic and pig hunting later. I know a place or two.

Oh and a side note we trapped and killed 500 last year just to remove them so population is no problem. I know some areas of the state can't afford to loose deer. But I guess ill sit out I'm just concerned with causing myself to need surgery.

Might want to sit out this year, even with two good hands damn rifle hunters lose too many deer because they don't fall dead in their tracks and its too cold to turn their heater off and get out of the comfy stand and look for it.

I had to have elbow surgery one year in Sept and I thought it was going to kill me. That was three yrs ago, how time flies. Sit it out before you make it worse and really have to have some work done to it. Like mentioned above. Let it heal and you can bow hunt then.

Thanks, Jigfish

You guys are way too sensitive on this issue. I was responding to the OP rigging up some sort of release devise because of his broken arm. I have nothing against bow hunters. I do have issues with wounding game animals and not recovering them whether it be rifle or bow. With rifle hunting this happens less than 10% of the time....with bow hunting over 50% of the time.(see TPWD study) So jerry rigging a device that would increase the odds of wounding is not cool.

bkj...I sell over 100 knives a year..whether you buy one or not has absolutely no impact whatsoever on my business.

bkj may not be the only one who is "way too sensitive"

I would agree that if I had any physical issues that affected shooting I wouldnt hunt this year. I would like to see that survey and would like to know who they surveyed. 50% sounds way high ...

I think PETA is the only one that has a copy of the full study but here is the jist of what the study concluded.

"In a major study done in 1989 by Glen Boydston and Horace Gore, wildlife biologists at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, they compared data on archery and gun wounding losses gathered at four wildlife management areas in Texas from 1972
through 1985. During this period, archers bagged 128 deer and wounded and failed to retrieve 130 others, for a crippling loss exceeding 50%—revealing that for every deer legally killed and recovered by a bowhunter, at least one or more deer were wounded
and left to die in a slow and painful manner. Gun hunters killed 2,266 deer and wounded 150 others for a crippling loss of 7%. Thus, only 1 out of every 14 deer shot with guns was not retrieved."

Admittedly it was performed a few years back and technology has improved with the equipment but the number of archers has also increased leading most to believe it is still around 50%

Ive bow hunted since 1980 and those numbers are high for any lease I've been on.. maybe 10% or 20% I would believe.. I know theres no way to know how many rifle hunters actually wound deer because most never know.... I also believe a lot of bow wounded deer go on to lead normal lives. Kinda like the pic I posted with the stick in his side..

Ouch. I know my wounding percentage isn't that high. And it's true that many bow wounded animals recover.
