A pair of his and her knives. Buyer wanted turquoise scales for her and something with hunter green in it for him. This is what I came up with.

I've got to get some better pics. The dyed scales on the green one came out amazingly well. They may be my all time favorite set of scales.

Outstanding work Mike. What is the material used for the green scales?

Material for the green scales are bird's eye maple.

Turquoise is from Arizona if I remember correctly?

Came out much better than I anticipated.Kudos Mike.

Birdseye Maple that I added dark green dye to the cactus juice used to stabilize the wood. Colors go all the way through the scales which was reassurance to me the I'm getting total penetration with my stabilizing method. up

Those scales may just be my all time favorites. Guess I'll have to make myself one with some like them when I get time.

Thanks Kev

Slow and easy with a new bit. A dull bit will generate too much heat making the immediate area being drilled expand rapidly. That causes the cracks.

I ordered a knife a couple days ago from MikeC and I know that it is way too early for me to be excited but I am chomping at the bit already. I am so excited to see how it will turn out. I look at his photobucket at least twice a day out of excitement.

Wedding is Saturday, I leave for Albany, TX noon Friday. These should be sitting on my porch when I get home today. "Cutting" it close with these.

...I wondered how hard that turquoise was to work with.

If anyone would like to know a little bit about the recipients of these fine blades, here is their wedding website. Darn good looking couple, better people to boot. I've hunted with the groom going on 20 years now. He's the brother I never had.
