So I'm wanting to buy a bigger AR like the 308 or 7.62. I noticed on DPMS site that the 7.62 is MUCH cheaper than the 308, and from what I've seen so is the ammo....why is that? DMPS offers like 8 different 308s, but only 2 7.62 models. I'd really like to get the 7.62 due to price of both gun and ammo. Anyone have any experience with both? Thx, Thomas

308 = AR 10

7.62 = Ar 15

From my research, I thought AR 15=.223/5.56 and AR 10=.308/7.62???

I think the 7.62 uses the same AR15 receiver as the 223. ar10 is different. Personally i think there are better rifles in both calibers for less money.

7.62 sux! It peters out like a 3030. Get the 308 or 223. I would try the 308.

You folks are having a problem in Nomenclature.....

The 308, is, in International i.e. Metric lingo, the 7.62 x 51 mm.

The 7.62 x 39 is the round that is used in many of the foriegn military rifles (AK 47) and is less powerful than the 30-30.

I can't find it right off hand, but a 30-06 is a 7.62 x __mm.

The 7.62 that DPMS offers is in an AR15. (7.62 X 39)
The 308 is offered in an LR10 (AR10) (7.62 X 51)

gotcha, so if I wanted something cheap, I should pick up an AK since they shoot the cheap ammo? These will mainly be for recreational shooting, and maybe the occasional pig or varmint.
