Testing the 9mm Federal Hydra Shok out of my Sig Saurer p938..this is a failed jug test and i will be doing another one soon with the same handgun and ammunition.. almost did a different kind of bullet testing last night, i heard some noise on my back porch and found this guy out there..i try not to harm anything if i dont have to, for now we will see if we can co-exist

Looks like the bullet performed pretty well to me.

it definitely proved to be an effective round(it came out HOT!)..i would expect a bit more out of the new hydra shok though as far as expansion is concerned..i have tested the old 115 grain hydra shok extensively and will continue to trust that round over this one till i can get some better results..

if the hydra shock isn't cutting it for you, go with Winchester rangers, federal hst, or speer gold dots, Winchester pdx1. are the ones that I use in a lot of calibers

this is 45acp.. but i would exspect the new 9mm Hydra Shok to look something like that after expansion.. i am hoping with a few more tests i can get some perfectly expanded rounds..the old 115 grain Hydra Shok opened up every time i tested it.. i really prefer 9mm rounds in the 147 grain weight personally..

What did you shoot the 45s into? I've dug a bunch of them out of clay banks, dirt hills, etc that didn't expand anything like that. I've dug some out of wood backstops that didn't expand at all. They just plugged with wood. I know that clay, dirt, and wood don't simulate living flesh. That's why I ask.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

I will only shoot FMJ 45 ACP after some poor performance I have seen from ballistic tip and Hollow points.
I tried to euthanize a Ram using Hornady zmax 45 acp at point blank, and it didn't penetrate the skull. I felt horrible.

Although they are both part of ATK, I believe the bullets are sufficiently different to merit trying Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel ammo in the 938 instead of the Federal HST.

HST and Hydroshck are different bullet designs, the HST was designed to replace the Hydoshock. The Gold Dot Short Barrel was specifically desgned to compensate for the loss of velocity in shorter barrels. I belive that it's exactly that loss in velocity that that is causing subpar performance for the OP.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Hydroshock was cutting edge design. . . in 1990.
Lots better stuff out there. Water will over-represent expansion, btw.

I did a test on a 175lb boar and he dropped like a rock. His 150lb brother took three hardball rounds.
