I've been out of the bow world for about 10 years. I have a couple of old Hoyt and Mathews bows which are probably outdated with todays stuff. What's a good bow for $300ish or less.
Are the PSE bows any good? I've seen those on sale at Cabelas.

Im shooting a parker that is around 10 years old.
The only thing that is outdated is the cool factor. It still shoots and kills as good as it did on day 1.
There is absolutely no reason the bows you have in good condition wont work great.
It's hell eatin em live

the old MQ2 Mathews are great bows.
I would suggest going and upgrading your rest and getting some carbon arrows, but if you like the older bows then keep on shooting them
the only thing that you will gain with a newer bow is speed and maybe a bit of quietness. Accuracy is up to you

The new bows are shorter cam to cam too. One of mine is a Mathews Ultra Light and the other is a Hoyt target bow (don't remember the model). Mathews Ultra Light Specs

Like you I got back into bowhunting after about a 10 year hiatus.
everyone was like "go to Mathews" but I generally like to buck the trend and got a reflex, then after that got stolen I bought a diamond stud and loved it. After that got stolen I stuck with diamond and got a iceman.
the new bows are so much smoother, quieter and faster its unreal. I would love to recommend diamond but havent heard many good things about the outlaw. the bowtech line is excellent though

where the new bows really shine is longer distances. I would hesitate to shoot over 40 with my Bengal even at targets....50 is a chip shot with my iceman.

Buddy had his HD broken into and cleaned out in his driveway, got a rent truck the next day, and it got broken into across town in Alamo Heights at Bill Miller's and they got his other laptop and GPS they missed the day before. Another mutual friend had his F250 stolen out of his driveway a week before.

Oh and for the bow question: Check the archerytalk classifieds for a nice used one. There are some really good deals to be had on there. When I decide to buy a new bow I get on there and find the previous model Mathews and usually upgrade for about 60-70% the $$ of a new one.

If you have a old bow shoot it until you find what you want. I know people that are still hunting with bows from the 90's and also recurve bows. The new bows are great for the speed, draw cycle and how quiet they can be, but if it shoots you can kill with it.

Oh and as much as I hate to say it, for 300 you will be getting older tech in a bow, the bows with the newest tech will run you almost 2k or more all set up.
