We have a place we are aloud to bow hunt on in the city of harker heights and it is almost 50 acres. yesterday we got done hunting, passed on some does and were greeted by our local pd. they hassled the hell out of us for hunting out there and told us we couldn't unless we had a city permit. we have gone to the city several different times and they refused to give us a permit. I was told this piece of property was grandfathered in, so we didn't need a permit. does anyone have any legal info on this? I found something that said the city would have to send a health official out and they would have to declare it unhealthy for the people that lived out there if we hunted. Any help would be nice
thank you jon

Call your local G.W. He will be able to give you the best advice.. Plus he will more than likely put the city boys in there place..

I have spoke to the game warden and he said we are abiding by all state regulations. but he told me to take it up with the city and of course they are no help. every one I have talked to are completely against hunting.

Might answer some of the questions for you. Also the very last portion about exceptions.

Type "hunting" in search. It looks like you need a permit.

Under title IX general regulations
then section 101. hunting

you might not need a permit....depends on when city annexed the land....

No problem. Hope it gets resolved and you are allowed to continue hunting.

It can be hard enough to retrieve a deer from neighboring property in a rural area. One can image how much more difficult it can be in the city.

For this very reason, some hunters are switching from bows to shotguns equipped with a silencer. Having a deer bleed out in a stranger's yard could lead to some unique problems.

Worst advice ever. The Game Warden will have no knowledge of the city code and can't enforce it.

thought this might be helpful if you want to hunt inside the city limits: I had a similar problem last year while dove hunting in the city limits of corpus christi. I did some extensive research with the game warden and ccpd and found out that as long as you have a written note or letter from the landowner giving you permission and are 500 feet from any structure, you can hunt with a shotgun. We were hunting for dove, I am not sure about bow or rifle.
