What kind of scopes are on these rifles? That might make a difference. What caliber?

I'd go with the 25-06, more versatile and more knockdown power. Good flat shooting round. I'm also a fan of savage rifles.

If it's a Savage with an accutrigger, Savage hands down and it's not even close.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

I'd pick the Savage because of the caliber. I had a Mossberg rifle, and it was a sub moa shooter, didn't like 300WM. 25/06 is very versatile, and either rifle should serve you well, with the Savage being the nicer of the 2. Put as good of glass as you can afford on whichever one you choose.

Picking the Mossberg might give you more funds to buy a better scope. Later when you trade up on rifles you can always move the scope to the new rifle. Just say'in

look at the marlin xl's, howa 1500, weatherby vanguards. nothing wrong with the savage either, all are close to same price and in my op are better quality then mossberg for rifles in that price point, 25-06 will cost you more to shoot

I don't buy Mossberg b/c I have had too many bad experiences with their customer service. If the Savage has AccuStock and AccuTrigger then that is a good rifle. I have one in. .243. In 25-06 I like a 24" barrel which I don't think Savage makes. I prefer Vanguards and they all come with a 24" barrel.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

imho. I have little experience with .243, but I hunted PD's with a .25-06 for a while. .25-06 is a very fast and flat round. Zero at 350ish and shoot without adjustments from 225 to 450. I think the external and terminal ballistics are better for .25-06.

I see that you're in Fort Worth. My Cabela's in Allen frequently has good rifles for reasonable money in the used gun department, so I'd imagine the store in Fort Worth is similar, if the location is convenient. The inventory varies greatly from week to week, so it might take a month or so to find the right rifle; and they have the usual over priced stuff that you'll want to avoid.
