How easy is it guys? I mean you look at MI where I grew up, there are no hogs. Yet in Texas people post pics of their kills every day. Are hogs as common as whitetail deer in this state? It just seems like anyone can go out on their property and kill a hog. I'm fascinated with hog hunting because I didn't grow up doing it. To many hunters in Texas I'm sure it's just another hunt.

Depends how and where you hunt them... Some places hold tons of hogs some hold a few. Shooting them at a feeder from a stand is easy. Hunting them with dogs is tough. Ive never stalked a pig but I know guys that do..idk how hard that is. There is plenty of them thats for sure.

We have hogs and deer on our place. Sometimes I'll see more of one than the other. Lately I haven't seen a hog except on game camera shots, and I'm seeing plenty of deer. Days in the past I've seen 20 or 30 hogs in one day. I never know who's gonna show up.

at our place it's about like deer hunting... they either show up or they don't.
Actually this year I've had some REALLY easy hog hunts, I went out about 30 mins before sunset and 10 to 20 mins later a hog showed up... I did this 4 times this year, it was great !

Dogcatcher, I saw you were close to Abilene. I used to Tuscola/Bradshaw area (close to Abilene) and we went from no hogs to covered in hogs in a 3 year span. I was on that lease for several years and they just over ran it. A good buddy of mine lives on a little land in Abilene and he is finally getting them on his place this year. I know everyone knows it just a matter of time before they move into most areas in Texas... but I was really surprised how quick it went from no hogs to over run with hogs.

trial and error buddy ,,, it becomes easy i like to post up under a tree where i know there has been activty and wait till i hear them sqealing grunting walking in water ect... then i play the wind stalk up on them usally with in 30 yards or so and then its go time thats when the real work starts ,, the killing is easy the hard part is dragging them out hanging them and skinning and quartering them up ,,

Deer are actually easier for me. Hogs don't pattern at all and are completely random in their comings and goings. I'll be over-run one day and have none for three months. That's the hardest part, being there when they are.

It depends on where you want to take him. It's a lot easier to take them to the processor than it is to, say, a park or a movie.

Depends on how you hunt them and if you are going after a big boar or not. There are a lot of hogs in TX but they aren't always easy to hunt.

State wide I am guessing 2:1 deer hog ratio. I have sat out all night many times and not connected on a hog. Most of the time I don't get a daylight shot opportunity.

That's the hardest part, being there when they are. Yep, what he said! I will only add that if you put pressure on them, it may be longer or they may turn more nocturnal.

going with a big group this coming year. We are doing a free range hunt and flying down there from MI and MO. I hope we are not dissapointed and don't see anything. I know that's hunting. But if your going to spend the hundreds of dollars we are going to spend we pray there is something out there for us.

My observation is hogs may be the smartest critters on the planet. That's what makes them so much fun to hunt. And as a side note, I won't let a hog walk especially a sow. You can't kill them all but at least I'm trying.
