Didnt see any deer and left after wife was crying about the storms comming in. First time there was one big place but hard to hunt with all the vegitation. Berrys all overy the place. Its hard to hunt when the deer have a smorgasboard of stuff to eat and don't have to travel much to find food!!! Better luck next time!!!

I'm going to assume that you're talking about the Crockett National Forest and not Crockett County. But that's just a guess.

Its a fun place to hunt. I've seen some huge deer out there but that's the thing, you see them and then you don't.

The Neches river area is known for big bucks. Just so overgrown with food everywhere, it's a tough hunt. Setup on a SMZ where you can see through the trees for a way. Pinoak flats close to the river are good.

Get you a climbing tree stand. Makes a huge difference in what you can see moving thru the under growth. And the best advice I ever got for hunting out there is to sit all day. It's brutal sitting in that tree stand from sun up to sun down but I definitely started seeing more deer.

Becareful out there. How did you get in the park? I got this off the National Parks Website.

All park grounds, visitor centers, hotels, campgrounds, and park roads – except for thru ways – are closed. All programs are canceled and permits issued for special events on park grounds nationwide are rescinded.

Park visitors in all overnight campgrounds and lodges have been given until no later than 6:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Thursday, October 3 to make other arrangements and leave the park.

National parks will remain closed until the government reopens.
And this site says http://stateimpact.npr.org/texas/2013/10...g-the-shutdown/

There are several federal outposts in Texas, in the form of National Parks, Forests and Monuments. And as of today you’ll find yourself out of luck if you want to collect pine cones in Davy Crockett National Forest or Instagram a sunset at Big Bend National Park. All of them are closed because of the shutdown.

Coming from the national forests and grasslands website these are the only areas closed in Davy Crockett:
• Ratcliff Lake Camping Area
• All hiking trails inside Ratcliff Lake Recreation Area (FSR 521 South to Highway 7) including small section of 4-C Hiking Trail

Everything else is open, I hunted it last week.

I don't always shoot deer, but when I do, I prefer B&C's.
I don't always shoot ducks, but when I do, I prefer banded ducks.

I called the place and got the government shutdown message. the link from National Forests and Grasslands doesn't look like its been updated in while. if you hit the home page it goes to this message.

Due to the lapse in agency funding, the sale of all types of permits (i.e., recreation, firewood, forest products, mineral materials for example) are suspended, recreation.gov reservations are suspended, and all federally owned recreation sites are closed. All offices are closed. These services will be available once funding is restored.

Law enforcement, fire suppression, and other essential services will continue without interruption.

This web site will remain available for public safety announcements and updates such as for wildfire, floods, and so forth. We will attempt to make timely updates about public health and safety on these web pages as appropriate. We sincerely regret this inconvenience.

For general information on Forest Service shutdown procedures, please visit http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/contingency-plans

I live 2 miles from one of the many parts of the national forest. I don't hunt there but there's a lot of good deer around here. A climbing stand is a must out there and try to find the acorns . The American beauty berry bushes are everywhere, don't worry about them to much ,those are always there. There's few acorns to be be found but if you look you will find some dropping good with deer hitting them hard.
