I have had 4 customers this week come in with bows that have been put togeather or set up from BP in Rockwall.

2 cross bows with no cable slides blew up cables. ( and They would not take it back)

1 cross bow with the crank installed wrong and stripped out the screws
and one compound with one adjustment screw missing and the clerk told the customer it only comes with one.

beware of the set ups.
If you are looking for good deals I'm sure you can try to price match at a local shop. WE do it here if we can.
I suggest if you buy your stuff at BP take it to a shop and pay to have it set up RIGHT or you will be paying more in the long run.

I can't even get arrows cut at bass pro anymore without them messing something up. They only get my business for fishing.

In College Station there are 2 places to get bows worked on. Gander Mountain and Sullivans Outfitters. Eddie Sullivan has been in business for some 30 years and is an amazing guy and does fantastic work (which he always stands behind). The term "de-ganderize" has been created because of the insane number of customers that come in to see Eddie and get their bow completely redone.

yep... I only take took mine to gander mountain when I used the range. I lived on southwest parkway so it was waaaay closer than Sullivans. Gander didn't get to touch my bow

Thanks to Bass Pro in San Antonio I learned a lot about how to set up a bow myself.
They are horrible. I have not been there in a few years for bow work, and I do not plan on going back.

I let Bass Pro in Garland (actual address is Garland; I don't want to give Rockwall the bad rap) set up my sons bow that we bought there. Within 3 days the adjustment screws fell out of one of the cams and the cable jumped off. His peep tie down string come loose and the peep fell out, the sight and quiver screws were just hand tight and came loose. He and I were very frustrated to not be able to get the thing sighted in. The kid at Bass Pro who set it up could only get him shooting large groups after an hour and blamed it on his form and tilting his head. I have a friend that can set up bows helping him tomorrow night. Son is stoked to be able to get a competent person set it up and I'm sure it will give him some confidence.

I've never been to bass pro with my Bow but do go to Cabellas in Allen. I've been impressed with most of those guys. Most of them know what they are doing.

I'm with mphunter, I've had far better luck with Cabelas, but after BassPro cut my string when installing a peep by separating the strands with a pocketknife, I've made it a point to do all of my archery business with a pro shop. If they're near you I would highly recommend On Target archery in Canton, if not, I can tell you its worth the drive. I've also heard noting but good things about Alvaredo Archery though I've never been myself. (I plan to soon, though)

I feel the same way about alot of pro shops, not just BPS or Gander. I have used several different places to set up my bows over the years. I had to have my shop fix what some of these other "pro shops" had thrown together.

It takes a perfectionist to properly setup and tune bows. Find a shop that is owned by one and you should be in good hands. I know there are several here in Texas. One of which is rednek booda

Places like Bass Pro are sometimes good to get bows at a better price. You buy the bow and maybe some accessories at Bass Pro and either set it up yourself or take it to a good bow shop and let them do it.

Its typical with most of those big stores like Bass Pro that a customer with some knowledge knows more than the person working there. More than one time I have helped another customer ( not with bow stuff since I am new but for fishing stuff ) when the worker could not. Exact reason I made sure to get my first bow set up at a pro shop instead. Plus I soon realized their prices were MUCH better.

Besides being good bow techs, these guys also carry the newest Thermocline Lures and have the liveliest minnows in ETex!

Incidentally, thanks for the heads up on BP ineptitude....
