My son just got his first bow yesterday. He accidentally dry fired it. String came off. Took it back to Gander Mtn to have it restrung and they say the bow itself is broke and they wont do anything for him. He is sick about it.

Take it to a actual archery pro shop and have them look it over.

What brand bow is it?
I always recommend Cinammon Creek. Really good people, good staff, fair prices, etc.
Did the limbs crack? What did they say broke on the bow?

The worse thing i think that could happen would be cracking a limb - and they can be replaced.
Like the other guy said, go to a real bow shop and see.

Like the other guy said, go to a real bow shop and see. You need to go to a real pro shop, the big box stores have minimum wage employees, who while well intentioned usually have no significant training.

Which bow is it and the poundage?
Like said the worst is cracked limbs and or bent cams. Least would be string off the cams. part of the problem with limb damage is internal fractures that cannot be seen or felt but would eventual manifest in total failure of the limbs.

Randy, who is one of the managers in the gun dept at the Lewisville Gander Mountain just called to say they are swapping his bow out for us. Great news and hard lesson learned by the boy.
