I recently acquired a Nikon Buckmaster 6x18x40, which I am going to put on my Remington 700, 7mm-08, for hunting deer (and coyotes and hogs)...at under 300 yards.

What 1 inch scope rings should I get? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Talley lightweights are hands down my favorite for a hunting rifle.
They are light, simple and tough.
In short, they just work and are very reasonably priced.

No need to add the extra cost and weight of a rail and rings on a hunting rifle that isn't going to be shot at very long ranges.

Talley or DNZ one-piece.

Put it this way.
About an hour ago I removed the picarinny rail from my main hunting rifle and the highend tactical rings and reinstalled the Talleys for a scope I am testing

I had several tactical rings on the bench I could have used.
But it just adds extra weight for no need.

Don't go above the medium height rings for a 40mm scope. I have seen Bass Pro carry them on the shelf. Im not sure what Houston has except humidity and traffic.

Here's another vote for DNZ (ded nutz)Game Reaper. Do yourself a favor and look at their website. or look at hawke optics if you need the scope to extend backwards an inch or so.

Will look into both talley and dnz..

With the Talleys, I've seen some with the rings/base set in one:
'Talley 940700 Black Anodized 1 inch Medium Rings/Base Set For Remington Model 700'

Figured a medium would give me enough room for the bolt to not interfere.

Any particular DNZ ones you guys recommend?

I ended up with the one piece Talleys - and I really like them. Had some older (high end) scope rings that I put on my rifle when I bought it 7 years ago...took them off last night and they were HEAVY! Loved the new lightweight Talleys.

Will probably buy the DNZ for my other deer rifle soon, so I can test them both out. Thanks for your feedback, everyone.

I just put some DNZ gamereaper one piece mount/rings on my Tikka 260 and I'm quite pleased. Possibly the easiest scope mount installation that I can remember. Only one minor issue. When I carry the gun, I can't get my thumb between the scope and the action. Not a big problem, but I do miss being able to do that.

Badger Ordinance would be cost prohibitive for this application

Talley would be the second choice, and Burris Zee rings for the third choice.

If I may ask, why out to only 300 yds? Won't that round do way more?

The majority of hunters here have rifles that can perform out to 1000 yards, but they, and their scopes can't.
