Any thoughts between these two? I am looking between a Remington 700 SPS stainless and a Savage. Both in .270. I am going to Cabela's this weekend.

Handle them both and choose the one that fits you best. JMO

i prefer savage, i own both, but my savages are more accurate out of the box..

get a hard wood savage, the stock on the sps is plastic or there abouts.

Savage has a good barrel, but that still doesn't atone for the fact that they are junk. Take the Remington. You'll be much happier in the long run. The quality is much better on the Remington. Its like comparing a Cadillac to a Yugo.

Remington, nuff said, the action is worth more than the savage rifle. Plus if you ever want to build a custom rifle you will a good action to build from!

i didn't say anything negative about the remington action which i agree is fantastic, my point is the stock is comparable to a recycled milk jug. imo folks should skip the sps and buy a bdl because by the time you spend the money to replace the stock you could've bought a bdl with a better finish to begin with.

i realize folks have different budgets which is why i suggested a hard wood savage. savage is the "working man's gun" and has an excellent reputation when comparing $'s to $'s.

I bought a Remington SPS stainless and now need a scope. I am looking online at Swarovski and Zeiss. I have a Zeiss Conquest on my other gun but am thinking of stepping up to a Victory series on this one.

I own several of both, for the price, the Savage will outshoot the Remingtons most of the time, yeah the Yugo beats the Caddy IMO. I got a Stevens 200 (Savage 110 without the accutrigger) in 7-08 and I shoot dime groups all the time. less than $300 and dont care if it gets scratched up, dropped or stolen.

I own many different rifles, different qualities and prices. But I have to say the most accurate rifle in my arsenal is a Savage model 110 .270 (no accu-trigger) It is also the cheapest, picked it up used at a gun show about 7 or 8 years ago. Nothing pretty about it, but boy does it drive nails.

I have some of both, but if I absolutely have to make a shot, I want the Savage 10FP-LE 26" 308 with the 4-14x56 Springfield Govt Scope....same hole at 100, less than an inch at 2,

I read all the posts on this thread and can tell you from personal experience that I've sold every Rem & Win I owned and have a closet full of Savages! Every one of them will flat out drive tacks! Savage is not pretty by any means but they spend all their money on their trigger and barrel and that is what makes a rifle shoot!

I will say that the Rem & Win actions may be a little smoother then the Savage but I've yet to have a Savage rifle action fail me in any way, shape, or form. Also, although Remington has come a ways with their new trigger, it still is not as good as the Savage Trigger. The only triggers as good are a Jewel or Timney after market! Out of the box it is the best shooting rifle going unless you pony up and buy a naked rifle for $1,500 & up!

I've a good friend that is a gun smith up at Canyon Lake and he's absolutely one of the best around and he'll tell you the exact thing about the Savages that I just stated above!

I've got 8 different calibers in 4 different models of Savages at home and every one of them will shoot 3 shot groups at 100 yards and leave one ragged hole! That's right, they all touch!!! I've got two of them that will leave a single hole with 3 shots at 100 yards if your good enough to hold it there.

If anyone can show me the same thing with Remingtons or Winchesters, I'd be totally shocked!

I have a Savage .270 that I've had for 15 years. It came with a Bushnell scope, nothing fancy. The year after I bought it, I dropped out of a 10' tower blind and I re-sighted it in the same day that I dropped it and it's shot straight and true ever since. Can't speak for Remington but I love my Savage!

I have hosted shooting events for both Companies. In my opinion, they both manufacture very good, moderately priced products. At the present time, Savage is the more accurate "out of the box" but with some work, the Remington will shoot very well, also.

I'll do everyone a favor and take your all your Remingtons and Winchesters off your hands.

My recomendation is easily with the Remington.
Savage has made a lot of improvments over the past few years, but just in case you ever decide to part with your rifle for any reason, the Remington will bring you back more of your investment, and probably sell faster too.
