Hate to do another 1911 post, but what are yalls opinions and experience with Sig, Springfield, and Kimber 1911s?

Went by the new Gander there in Mesquite and they have an amazing selection of firearms. I was in the market for a small conceal carry or 1911. Had it narrowed down to the xds or a 1911 until the xds recall. And since they still haven't sorted out a fix yet, I'm leaning towards a 1911. Any hands on opinions or experiences would be great. Thanks

I've sent back or have had issues with several Sig 1911s

I'd stay with the Springfield. For what a Sig or Kimber cost, you can deck out the Springfield and still have a few bucks left over without compromising reliability or quality. I never had a single problem with my A1.

The Ruger SR1911 is a solid choice as well.

Out of those I prefer the Springfield. I don't know what budget you're looking at but the Springfield Operator is a fine 1911.

I was thinking 1200 and under for a nice 1911. Still gonna get something smaller later for a better conceal carry. But since winter is coming up I should be able to hide a larger pistol on my 6'4 frame much easier than I could in the summer.

Gander didn't have any Colt 1911's. Anyone know if they can order a different model of a brand if they already carry the brand? Not partial to Gander, just a MUCH better selection and atmosphere over Bass Pro. I'm about an hour east of the DFW area as it is.

I have six Sig pistols including an Ultra Compact and a Scorpion 1911. I hand load, run JHP, and have even ran Russian steel case. I have never had a glitch with any Sig. I believe them to be the best value in a 1911.

My choice would be Springfield and would NEVER buy a Kimber

Never owned a kimber, however i would not buy one. Seen some on the range at a competition repeatedly jam. I have owned a sig 1911, and it was a good shooter. Have owned several springfields, and currently havea trp operator. Would not hesitate to buy a sig or sprngfield again.

My experience with sig 1911's have been the same a OKstatefan. I bought one for the wife and liked it so much that I got a scorpion for myself a couple months later. They both eat whatever they have been fed from steel case to hand loads. Both were under $1k with adjustable sights. The Springfield with similar options was the range officer. I was looking for a RO, but they were more expensive than the Sig I got.

Not to muddy the water more, but my BIL has a Ruger 1911 and really likes it.

I'm open to other brands, just liked what I saw in the three listed. Biggest downside that's pushing me from Kimber is the stated 500round break in. Been reading of people that still have issues after that. It'll probably be right after xmas when I get one so maybe I will find a good one on sale.

Only thing I'm set on is I don't want an all stainless finish. Not sure why, just don't care for it. I'll either go all black or the bi-tone. Thanks for all the info so far.

Break in period on a 1911 is BS, if you buy a good gun it will be good to go out of the box, a properly built one anyway.

Check out STI. They're in your price range, are based in TX, and Id take a STI over the 3 you mentioned.

Love my Springfield Operator.

Pulled it out of the box, loaded it, shot it a whole bunch, didn't clean it, repeat many times since.

I'll disassemble it and clean it this winter. Maybe it's been broken in a bit now.

Oh, and I ordered an STI 18 months ago. Doubt that order will ever be filled.

Really wanted a Texas made pistol, but they soured me pretty bad with no word of why I never got an explanation of why they just acted like the order never happened.

I'm not against Colt, Remington, Ruger, or others. Just stated a few I have looked at, handled, and liked.

I have a Kimber Desert Warrior and love the heck out of that gun. Haven't had a single jam in mine and have run plenty of rounds through her. That gets a little outside your budget though.

My first Kimber has operated flawlessly. Not one failure. Say what y'all want, I'm keeping mine. Love it

Nighthawk Tact.

But in the mean time Springfield Operator 1911. Owned one and it was as solid as a diamond.

Also as others have mentioned the ruger sr 1911 is a solid gun. Have two buddies thag have them, have shot, and disassembled both. They shot great and are solid built. I wohld buy one, especially for the price.

Hey FiremanJG, which STI item did you order that is all hung up on back order? Since you can't purchase directly from STI, it might be an issue with the retailer you purchased through.

I ordered one on a Saturday and it arrived the next Wednesday.

A name like "OkStateFan" automatically causes one to question his judgment... peep LOL!

So, this Sooner fan will have to vouch for him! roflmao

I'm a 1911 die hard. My Sig is an STX from their Custom Shop. I have owned Wilson Combats and Kimbers also. My Sig did have a pretty major issue (Constant jams/FTF), but they corrected it and paid the shipping to and from, so I am happy. It is now a tack driver, and eats anything I feed it. I have not owned a Springfield but if I was going to get a $1200 1911, Springfield would be outgunned by the higher end 1911s (this is only my opinion, of course!)
