Do I need to drag out my old quote that starts out, " One of the first things you learned about bird hunting, if you grew up in the South, is that you never criticize another man's birddog."? Agreed!

Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

But, breed arguments are common on bird dog forums.
Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

My signature says it all. Everything else is second rate. How many time have I heard V owners and brit owners and gsp owners say their dog hunts like a pointer.
Now that everybody has been properly insulted, I have had my butt kicked by GSP's, Vizsla's, and brit's.
Of the many dogs I have owned if I had to kill a sack full of birds the one dog I would have on the ground would be a GSP Brit cross. She did not run like a pointer, but was a meat dog of the first rank.
Tigger If it isn't white it is not a birddog.
KC Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy. _________________

I have never had a visla. I never expect to, but I say, to anyone who categorically claims his dogs are superior to my dogs, without ever seeing my dogs in the field, you sir, are full of beans (or more correctly, what results from beans)!

This applies to any hunting style dog. I dare someone to tell a coon hunter his titled Bluetick is crap compared to a Treeing Walker... Double dare you to do it in the woods

Yeah, no need to hit the panic button. Nobody said anything bad about anyone's dog at all. Like Bill said discussions on breeds are pretty common. I just said that I agreed with Trueblu about the comparison of the breeds. Also for what it's worth, I would own a V before I would a GSP. Just because it fits my hunting and home situation better. I don't think Trueblu was being hateful or meant what he said as demeaning to the V. I think he gave his honest opinion of them from what he has seen and I think that it is pretty much spot on from what I have seen. Not good or bad just different. I duck hunt with a spaniel so I know damn well what it's like to have people rag on your dog or your breed of dog. Every time we show up to a retriever hunt test we get laughed at until he gets his turn to run. Then the laughs change to dropped jaws and applause from the gallery. If you don't like someone's opinions about a breed then prove them wrong in the field and laugh all the way to the bank!

The good thing about dogs is they don't know what breed they are. They are not like people. They just like to hunt. Pointers that retrieve don't know they are not supposed to.

I doubt he will be paying much for the pup, it might even be free. So he gets a average hunting, family pet for nothing or next to it.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

it was a "good" price, depending on your opinion. there was a litter of 13 and they looked more like momma(the vizsla), but looks like they're all gone. thanks for all the info and opinions though it will help me out for the future.
