My son & I lost our opportunity to hunt the Trinity River NWR in Moss Hill, TX. Received this e-mail this morning:

Due to a lapse in appropriations, all U.S. Fish
and Wildlife Service lands, including National
Wildlife Refuges, are closed and all programs
and activities are cancelled. For more information,
please visit www.doi.gov/shutdown.

This is especially a bummer, because this was our only opportunity to possibly get a deer this season. frown

From what I was reading that it wasn't supposed to affect anything like that but I guess you can chalk that one up to another lie from our gov

It's just vacant land...the principle of closing it even though the government doesn't manage it daily really stinks.

This, it's public land meaning your land. Enjoy it.

I don't think you would have got just an email..... There would be signs I'm sure.... Unless the government is paying for your hunt and providing government employees to chase the deer to you..... More like bubba starting the email chain so he has more privacy on his government land hunt.....

Unless "bubba" is making signs too. This sign is on the gates at some of the lakes.

They sure were able to make signs awfully fast... Seems a bit strange

My thoughts too.

Also if they're so broke how can they afford to make all these signs?

Maybe the sign department is grandfathered in, like all of congress' benefits.
Maybe they just keep them signs handy and reuse them over and over.

Don't kid yourself, this government shutdown was planned a long time ago. Eventually some sort of bill will be passed and these workers will return - and they will get back pay. So, in effect, it's just a big extended vacation. I suspect it will last through or just before the holidays.

Too bad you ain't makin the rules of the game..... Only ones getting back pay are the ones that are in emergency necessary positions... They are working without pay and will get backpay. The rest of us just get leave without pay..... Hard to believe that access to land is blocked also... Just another phase of the mesiah's ongoing crusade to embarrass America and show his undieing contempt for all we stand for.....
Better quit now and let my people skills rejuvenate....

The signs were left over from the last time this happened.

1995 or 96, I believe. During the middle of the Clinton administration.

This also happened in Canada a while back. A friend who lived up there at the time (I forget where exactly) told me that the national parks were closed technically, but there were no rangers around to enforce it, so when they drove by they saw the woods full of people picking mushrooms. Apparently a very expensive mushroom grew in the area, and rangers normally prevented people from coming in and taking them.
