I need help with figuring out what kind of pellet gun to get. This is my first. I will use this for birds and small mammals. I know someone with a Daisy, but I don't know if it will hold up.
Preferably under 100$ and available at Academy Sports and Outdoors.

Thanks

Well, if you spend less than $100 I think you are pretty likely to find yourself replacing it within three Christmas seasons.

I still shoot sparrows off my martin house with the Benjamin 392 that my father gave me when I was about 10 years old. Not a bad option for about $175 shipped. http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Benjamin_392_pump_air_rifle/205?ab=1

The Ruger Air Hawk isn't a bad idea either at about $130 shipped...

One more thing, you may want to ensure that you and your child have familiarized yourselves with the species of birds that are federally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918...

In short, he can basically only shoot pigeons, starlings and sparrows legally. Just be aware...

Also: The Benjamin 392 LOOKS like a pellet gun. If a little boy acts like a little boy and brandishes it in public where a neighbor can see him, it isn't likely to incite mass hysteria about a child sniper at large in the neighborhood.

See if you can find a used RWS in your price range. Anything new is likely to disappoint.

I just had a thought: If you get the Ruger AirHawk, be aware that "break action" pellet rifles can pose a serious hazard to fingers and hands. If you inadvertently pull the trigger while the barrel is in the "open" position as it is every time it is cocked or being loaded, the barrel will slam closed forcefully and it MAY be enough of a pinch to amputate a small finger or take a bite of flesh out of the webbing of a small hand.

My vote goes to the Benjamin 392. Paid $35 at a pawnshop, and
a reseal kit is about $15 from Crossman.

I vote Benjamin also, the high power springers are a too "hold" sensitive. Maybe when he's older.
