I need recommendations for a bow. I would like to spend about $500 give or take. I'm not interested in speed, I want smooth and quiet. A forgiving shooter would be nice too. My old bow is a Matthews MQ32 but I don't have the disposable income for a Matthews these days. Thanks

You will not find what you are looking for with only $500. JMHO Put about $200-$300 more with it and you will be fine. Any bows under that, you just will not be happy with.

Are you looking for a set up unit or bare bow?

Are you looking for new or used? If used, there are a lot of bows sold on Archery Talk. I bought a bare Mathews Z7 in almost new condition with a dozen new arrows for $500.00 from a guy on Archery Talk.

Buy a used bow off of archery talk. Some of those guys are like golfers. Have to have the latest and greatest so they buy new stuff every year. I've bought 2 bows off there and both have been perfect.

Look at an Elite. Specifically a z28 or hunter. Both are as smooth as you will find and you get a lifetime transferable warranty.

I'm just kind of curious on how people wonder why bow shops close or have troubles staying open if we refer everyone to online sites to order there stuff?

Then we get to see posts on here " just bought a bow on line and cant find a shop to help get it set up."

How about referring people to bow shops that can sell, set up, and maintain the equipment purchased.
This is how we keep shops in business not buying on line.

Some shops should make better deals on lots of equipment. It often varies a good amount from shop to shop. I always use a dealer but it may not be local. $ matters

That being said its worth the extra for someone who really knows their stuff. I drove from San Angelo to Kerens to Rednek Booda for my last setup and Jerry spent all day with me getting ready for Africa. Some shops aren't worth it.

you need to shoot the Hoyt Charger, Very good price bow for how it feels and shoots espeacially if you have the accesories already and just need a bow. I shot a bunch before buying this one.

I buy used equipment. But when it comes to supporting my bowshop, got to follow this advice. Americans are killing themselves with the box store and online mentality. Thes businesses steal from the communities.
