Just wondering if anyone had some insight on some decent binoculars. Don't want to spent a whole lot but would spend up to $200. All info is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

I would recommend Nikon or Pentax. I have worked with both of these companies and feel that they have excellent products for the money.
My favorite glass of all is the Pentax 8x43 DCF SP. For a big game, walking binocular it just seems to be just right.

I sell all of them, but prefer Steiner, 8x30's are what I carry hunting. I have others in the trucks too that are fine, Wind River's and Tasco's, and the Nikon's are the ones I have had come back lately broken...

I have a pair that my wife bought me years ago from Sears. I'm not sure of the brand, but they are 10 power and really gather the light. Have you looked at Walmart? They carry some realy nice outdoor stuff.

Spend the extra money and get Steiner's. They'll last a lifetime.

I second the Pentax. I have a pair that i purchased about 3 years ago, PCF WP II 10x50 and also a new Compact UCF G 10x24 that I love. Very clear and bright and no problems yet! Plus the prices won't break the bank.

Thanks to Texpppr for the 10x24's, great price and quick shipping.

Hunting is more to me than Antlers on the wall. It's more about the memories you make, and sharing those memories with friends, and family.

Vortex Diamondback 8x42. Right at $200 from cameraland. Website is cameralandny.com. Super people to deal with.

Have two friends who bought the 8x42 Diamondbacks, in my opinion you would have to spend $400-$500 to better them. I own Leica Ultravids and Pentax DCF WP's in 8x42 so I know what good glass looks like.

Vortex warranty is also unbeatable, doesn't matter if you accidentally run them over with your truck. Vortex will repair or replace them free of charge.

Just a peice of advice, stick with 8 power in your price range. In cheaper binoculars 8x will usually have a sharper/better image and definitely be brighter.

Everyone seems to think they need 10x bins, that "more must be better". Thats BS or just from folks who don't know any better (no offense to anyone). Cheaper 10x bins will just magnify what imperfections are in the glass not make it better.

hope this helps.

Bill

I third the recommendation for the Vortex Diamondback's. It's a great buy for the $$$$. I bought the 8x42's and really like them. They have great low light capabilities and are really clear to looke through. The guy's at Cameraland are top notch to deal with. See the other post for their website.

The best money that I have spent this year on my gear.
