Flickr pig pics Hadn’t trapped a pig on my place since March 2011, and seeing any in the neighborhood was getting rare. A couple months ago I heard some at dusk, but they sounded like they were at least 200 yards into the neighbors’ property. Then about a month ago I saw two large adults walking along my fenceline in the early morning, but they were gone by time I got my gun out and boots on. Since I knew a few were in the area, I started baiting my trap again with soured corn. Didn’t actually expect to catch any, but figured it doesn’t hurt to try. I was just about ready to give up again, as all I was getting was crows and cardinals. Not even raccoons seemed to be stopping by. I was checking the trap to see if I need to replenish the corn, and found 5 hogs in it. They came out at 71, 85, 87, 103, and 103 pounds. Perfect eating sizes. I gave away the two largest to friends, and the kept the rest. After gutting, skinning, quartering them, then washing the meat to get rid of all hair and dirt, we finally got to bed at 12:45 the next morning. A lot of work, but it sure tastes good afterward, and the in-laws I give most of it to think me a hero, which never hurts.

Deer quality is not measured by antler size
