Alligator snapper? Assuming it was caught in fresh water.
Past performance is the best predictor of future behavior.

Alligator snapper is the only thing it could be.
Things are built like tanks. I gigged one with a flounder gig in the neck once and dragged it ashore. Tried to smash its head with a rock the size of a softball, and the dang thing just kept bouncing off.
Finally gave up and let it go.

That dude has to be 150 years old. You could donate it to a Zoo? That is to old a critter to shoot.

Great pic! When I was a kid a guy brought one into town he caught on a trotline and dispatched with. .30-30. I swear it was 3 feet across the shell. Went in the local paper-biologist from SFA said it was over 100 years old.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

i was driving up a hill one day by tawakoni and there was one standing in the road at the top, it looked like a dog its legs were so long.
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

Snapping turtles come in two varieties. A relatively smooth shell, called loggerheads. If it has a very ridged shell it's an alligator snapper.

I'd fry that bad boy up, I'd also say I had some gator in me. My kids shot a big snapper during bird season this year, not that big though
