I have a bad problem with hogs always at my feeder. They have been coming to it for about a month now, and since then i haven't seen any deer come to my feeder. What should i do? Should i shoot one? Help.....

Shoot them. If they get shot at enough, they will change their behavior pattern. Plus, hogs are good eating!!

My experience has been that if you pop a couple of them, they will turn nocturnal and only visit the feeders at night or leave the area all together.

Personally I'd get my .308 semi auto CETME with a 20 round magazine, make sure I have room in my freezer, and start killing hogs until there where non left. But that's just me. Boars (males) taste the way they smell. If they smell bad, drag em off into the bushes (far away from where you hunt)and let the coyotes get fat off of em. The ones that dont stink, load em up and take em to the processor. There are no rules or regulations for killing wild hogs. You can do it year round, 24 hours a day. If you do it at night, might wanna call the local game warden and tell him what you are going to do so he won't think you are out spotlighting and poaching deer or other game animals.

You can also build a trap, a good schematic is available at the TPWD website and trap them and sell them. Many game ranches will buy them so they can charge ppl to shoot them.

Shoot as my as you can, I have that if you kill some, the hogs will move off to somewhere else for a while. But shoot all you can.

We've got the same problem with our feeders. It was really bad during the spring & summer because none of our neighbors were feeding. Once the season started and everybody around us started feeding corn, we began to see fewer & fewer hogs. In January, I'm going to build a pen around my feeder using T-posts & hog panels.

An old and very wise ole Cat once told me that hogs and deer(we raised melons and the deer were bad pests)get used to just about everything you throw at them when you are trying to get rid of them. The one thing they can't get used to are "them holes"...lol...I know...not a lot of help...but it made me smile to think of him.

In my opinion and from what I have seen, hogs are more destructive on the whitetail than any coyote will be. If you have a lot of hogs and they will run your whitetail off and destroy your fawns that drop. They will eat the yound deer if the can get ahold of one. Get rid of them as much as you can before the late spring-early summer gets here.

If your place just has wild game on it and no livestock you can try putting out straight cotton seed out and it will kill the hogs when the eat too much of it.

Other that that my advice is to go FULL RAMBO on them varmits!!!

Ah heck....you can always invite a few of the people here on the forum and do a group hog erradication hunt. It seems there is always someone on here that is looking for a place to hunt just for some meat.

The best thing you can do is buy you 10 or so pieces of hog panels and build a pen around your feeder. The panels are tall enough to keep the hogs out but the deer can easily jump over them. Cottonseed doesn't kill hogs as they will not eat enough of it. We keep cottonseed out yearound and still have plenty of hogs. Build a pen around your feeder and shoot as many as you can.

I'd be willing to bet there'd be some real nice fellas on this website willing to come down there after deer season and take care of that little problem for you. Hell they'd probably be willing to share their beer and food with ya just for the oppurtunity. Let's take a poll. Who'd be willing to help him with his hog problem?

O.k...she said she talked to the website guy and they will get it back up on the TPWD website. It may be a couple of days but it will go back up. This link may or may not work and you may have to use the search feature to get the plans.
You will have to know how to weld but it is a strong trap that works wonderfully and if you bolt the sides together you can relocate it and it makes it easy to transport.

Actually, I don't think you can do alot
about your problem. The very easiest trap
to build is taking those same hog panels and
t-bar a half moon into the ground. T-bar a
second half moon into the inside of the first.
The hog will enter the flap but cannot get out.
IF you build it big enough you'll catch 10 or
15 a night and cut your problem down. Check
internet sites to see diagram of the trap. I'm
suggesting the State realize the problem and offer
a bounty of $10.00 or $25.00 a head. Till a money
motive exists-we have a problem.

Huntmaster that is a great idea. I could pay for my lease by hunting hogs I guarantee it!

TPWD wouldn't mind raising our hunting license cost and the cost for hunting public land permits to pay for the hogs.

At $10-$25/head and 100,000 hogs(...and there is a lot more than that out there running around) that is $1,000,000-$25,000,000. Maybe thats just a drop in the bucket for their budget? I don't really know.

But I don't want my hunting license cost to go up so someone can pay for their hunting lease.

There are already places you can take wild hogs to that will buy them. Some places offer as much as .45 cents/lb for hogs over 200 lbs. at the last that I heard. I haven't trapped hogs in a while so I'm not up on the prices but I do know quite a few people that sell them. There is one buyer down here in Gonzales County by the name of Roy Staton that buys wild hogs and has been buying them for years. I'm sure there is more places like that over the state.

Bounty for hogs? Seems like that would be inviting additional poaching problems since they can just get money for killing!

Just shoot them things and trap them while you are at the lease.
