I was wondering if there are only certain 6 volt batteries that can be recharged. If so what brand is the best? Thanks

Only the rechargable ones can be recharged. The brand doesn't determine whether or not they can be recharged. You have to look for the ones that say rechargable.
I like the black ones that academy carries, not the yellow ones at walmart.

i use the sealed re-chargeable batts. i would recommend that if you are gonna use for a feeder i have found that the 8.5 to 9.0 maph works the best. it charges faster on a solar panel and it really makes the corn sling. you can get them a any feed store for around 20.00.

I really like these guys for price: http://www.batterywholesale.com/ They do most of their business on the internet, but they are located in Georgetown so I just swing by their shop when I need something to save on shipping.

My experience has been that rechargeable batteries don't last as long as standard, alkaline batteries. I've never had a rechargeable that lasted more than a month (usally less) before it needed recharging. I've had alkaline batteries last as long a four months before they needed replacement. While you might still save money in the long run on the battery, this doesn't make up for the extra time and expense to get the battery and recharge it. For that reason, I would only recommend rechargeable batteries if you're going to use a solar charger.
Let me add too that if you're going to use alkaline batteries, go with the cheaper Ray-o-vac brand. One of the consumer magazines found they perform just as well as the more expensive Dura-cells and Eveready brands.
Still, I've stop using feeders because of all the hog problems they create. I've gone to food plots only.

Hook a solar panel up to one and the black ones that academy sales will last you a long time, usually change every year just because.

I have been using 12v 7amh with a solar panel on it for 4 years now. I have one on the feeder and one on my camera. I have not had any problems from the battery at all. I can get 12v 7amph for around $16 at a supply house we use. I will probley change the battery out this year just to be on the safe side.
