2- 20 foot panels and a 4' door. I figure its bigger than a 4x8 but it sure looks cramped. Tons of pigs at this feeder before I set everything up. Now I'll have to wait and see. I plan to give it a week or so before I set it.

I have a feeling they're gonna get through that door.

Looks like it should work when you get the door on it, best bet is to try it.

It will work till you get a big old mean boar in there. The door is the weakest link you have. What type of door do you have? My concern would be the height also. Most traps sold today are smaller in size. One thing you could do is wire across the top from Tpost to Tpost to help if a big hog hits the panels up high to keep from bowing them out.

X2. I would reinforce that door with a lot of wire. Same thing on your posts, but especially that door.

I have built homemade traps like this and used a piece of panel for the door. But I made it 8" taller and 12" wider on each side. I braced the bottom of the door panel with a piece of pipe or Tpost so if a big hog hit it, it was not going to bow as fast. You can put a piece of pipe/Tpost across the top also of the door panel for even more strength.

Thanks for the input and the tips. There's actually 8 t-posts supporting the panels. They're not very visible in the pic. I'm hoping it's ok "as is" until they've been in and out a few times. I'll add reinforcement on all the weak spots before it's maiden voyage...

Like stx said, I'd go ahead and wire across the tops of the post and put a post horizontally across the top and bottom of the door on the outside. You might also get some heavier feeder legs and anchor them with t-posts too. A big boar will do crazy stuff when he realizes he's trapped.
If you go ahead and do it now, you won't have to worry about them getting used to it again if you go back and do it later. Just being in there working on it will get your smell around there again.

Well, after several days- nothing. Seems like they're eating all around the trap (as well as other feeders) but simply won't enter. Anything I can do to increase my odds? I've already added an "attractant" to the mix and nothing.

It may sound silly but start over. start with just the door in the open postion, after a couple of weeks add one panel, couple of weeks later add the other like you are building a figure six trap. release the figure six side and leave door open for a few more weeks. One you know they are good with the whole thing rig you door and sharpen your knife. We picked up a ton of pork chops in one morning this way...just seem to take forever till we locked them down

I attempted this same type trap but actually a little bigger. Small hogs eventually went in, but older sows and boars never did, didn't matter to me anyway as the younger are tastier

Just a thought...

Put baffles on your feeder so that everything stays inside the enclosure.....

Take a 5 gal bucket & fill it about 1/2 full of corn, add a box of strawberry jello or some "hog wild" and fill with water to the top of the corn. Set it in the sun for a few days til it gets ripe. Then go back out with some post hole diggers and dig a hole about 2 to 3 feet deep. Pour in the mix but don't fill the hole all the way to the top. Leave room at the top for dirt. Cover it up. Then spread a little around on the ground......THEY WILL FIND IT.

We were catching 'em in a 3'wide 4' tall 8' long portable drop door. We dug the hole and put the stuff in first and set the trap on top of it & then sprinkled the remainder around inside the trap..... This was on another lease we were on a while back. Right now we're not seeing a lot of hog sign...but they're there.....

Good Hunting up

should work the first time, might have tweek it later, but your feeder might be on the ground depending when you catch one and when you check it...good luck

I think they've been avoiding it since there's other feeders that are obstructed. I put out a 4x8 trap today near one of the other feeders. We'll see what happens...

We have a game cam at our trap and its set on video and we have learned a lot about how long it takes them to find the bait and how many get away when door closes..
