Has anyone ever known axis deer to survive in a COLD climate?

I know there are some Axis (as well as other exotics) in Missouri and Ohio....but I'm not sure how well they do in extreme cold.

I know they do not like cold weather, but can tolerate some IME. Ice storms will kill the younger ones if they do not have good bedding/thermal cover. I would imagine snow would be worse. The longer it was below freezing and snow on the ground I think the more trouble you would have.

I would think red deer would be okay but not blackbuck.

I've got a friend that has a few in north Texas that rarely make a decent rack because in the winter they are growing their rack and when it gets really cold he believes their racks freeze and stop growing!
This only applies to these animals of his. Not all axis are growing horns in the winter. He said they freeze at the pedical and drop off.

Spiden Island up in the San Juan Island's of Washington State have axis (fallow and sika too), would often see them while I was fishing from the boat. We used to be able to go hunting over there, but the Oakley sunglasses guy owns it now and doesn't allow it.
