My set up for hog hunting is a Nikon Monarch scope on top of my 6.5 Grendel, along with the XLR 250 kill light. I mostly hunt at night and so far this set has worked fine, but I would like to try something better. Can’t really afford night vision or thermals, so I’m thinking an Eotech or Aimpoint might work best along with the XLR 250 kill light. If any of you have a good set up that allows you fast follow up shots at night and or low light please let me know.
Thanks

Sounds like a reasonable setup to me.
The Grendel gives plenty of range and knockdown.
The kill light should work for plenty of distance.
The Monarch is a decent scope.

When I was using a light, I tried to stay in the 3 to 5X magnification range.
Primary Arms has some nice weapon rated reddot scopes and 3X magnifyers.
I plan to put an EOTech 512 on my pig pistol along with a Kill Light for walking around.

Mostly been hunting at night with a 6.8x43 with a N750 DigiSight on top.

Are hunting on a feeder?

If so maybe some feeder lights would help.

I found by mounting my light under the barrel rather on top of the scope or off to the side. I could see better through the scope at night. I'd agree with using lower magnification too.

Aimpoint with a 3x magnifier would be great. But since you cannot add a PVS14 behind it later due to caliber rating, I would look towards a nice variable 3.5x-10 or a 2x-8.

Burris , makes a decent scope and regularly sell a mount/scope/micro dot special.

Sightmark will be releasing a 3.5x magnification digital nightvision scope at the end of the year, if you can afford a genuine aimpoint or eotech then you shouldn't have any problem affording this new offering, it will be called the Photon and there is a separate thread on this forum with information on the 5x model.

Good timing, I just tried out my AR with an EOTech (mine's the EXPS2)and a brand-new XLR250 this last weekend in Llano. Worked well on the lone sow hanging out at the feeder before dawn (I think the brazen thing was ASLEEP under it when I got there), but as it was the only pig there, I didn't need follow up shots. I feel confident I could have taken them in the 50-75 yard range, my EOTech doesn't have a magnifier in front of it and my eyes aren't what they used to be.
I've been contemplating a magnifier but my once-light AR is starting to get heavy with all the extra crap, and I'm not sure I want that thing flopping around. Need to spend more time shooting my buddy's AR with a similar config (EOTech 512 + 3X magnifier)...

This ^^^^^ It will put you much further in the game than a Eotech or Aimpoint.

I have a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x24 with a Hog Sniper light on my 6.8. All of my hog hunting so far has been at night and at fairly close range. For what I do with it I can't imagine anything else doing much better.

I use a leupold vxr 2x7 with a xlr 100 on my 6.8. Super clear with the green light, just put the red dot on the target and done. Tried it out when I first got it, pitch black on a metal target at 70 yards and shot a clover with it.
