.....would you be looking at and why for overall deer/hog hunting/family getaway...and not bust the $150k mark.... Assuming all things are as equal as possible like water sources, cover, etc.

You can pretty much mark off everything on that eastern edge, especially Parker and Hood. I found mine in Runnels, but they're all pretty good, and other than the far east, there, you can find what you're looking for. In general, the price per acre will drop as you go west, in that section of counties.

Palo pinto if you could find land there for less than $3000/acre (not likely given the relatively small about of land you're looking at purchasing).
I've seen some big deer come out of Shackelford county if that's a priority.

Since you have to drive to it anyway, I'd pick a large lease out of state.

You have several east west highways, 380, 180 IH20, and 67, check for locations close to them, then look for good connections to the north south highways. Travel time and distance isn't bad when you can stay on major highways most of the trip. Get on smaller FM roads and time and dangers can add up in a hurry. A few miles of crappy roads at the end is not that important to me.

Yep, for hunting I'd be looking towards the bottom of that map.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I haven't seen 500 an acre land anywhere in Oklahoma that was worth owning. I didn't look real hard, though. If you see some, let me know. I'd be highly interested.

On the north side Jack or Young. Both are heavily wooded with Blackjack-Postoak. South side McCulloch ,Coleman and Brown. Any of the counties on your map hold Deer. Some are a lot more open Mesquite country though. I'd prefer the privacy of a little more woods. Comanche can be excellent too. Erath also but land gets to be a lot more $.

I'm going to say western Young or eastern Throckmorton counties. IMO, the closest western counties where you start seeeing some B&Cs.

Were on 106 acres in Brown co. Hunts a lot bigger than that with the trees. Ready for the bow opener to get down there and unwind for a week.

You're probably not gonna find land in Oklahoma for $500 an acre. Probably closer to 2k if it has Red River frontage. The rifle season is 16 days long.

All of the northern counties have oilfield traffic, and you won't own the minerals unless you pay handsomely. You need to keep that in mind. Get as much info as possible. Go look at each property and ask questions about oil production on the place. One thing about the "Chalk country" down south, you probably won't have a pumper show up at 9 AM when you're in the stand.

without a doubt! Great genetics around there and plenty of deer! Hunted there for years and saw and shot some really nice ones. It's hard to find a place around there now a days that don't cost an arm & a leg though!!!
