Deer in general will be frightened by an arrow if they hear it or "see" you before you shoot. Im not sure about blackbuck specifically ducking or jumping but they more than likely would if theyre looking at you when you shoot. The best place to aim on any 4 legged creature is to follow the front leg up to center mass between the spine or neck. Thats your kill zone.

Most people shoot whitetail and North American game roughly center mass (top to bottom) and just behind the shoulder. Most African game are positioned a bit differently. The best shot on them is pretty much straight up the front leg and a bit lower, as their vitals are lower and more forward in the body cavity and their rib cage is a bit different. A shot behind the shoulder will work, but a shot right on the shoulder a bit lower than it would be for a Whitetail, is better.

The blackbucks markings give you a perfect aiming point just behind the shoulder right at, or just above, the white to black color change.

This spot should about do it! He's slightly quartering towards you in this pic so maybe just a smidge more forward, but...close enough. He'll die quickly.

Not me. I'm punching through that shoulder on a light boned, thin skinned animal like them. Make sure I hit that boiler room.

Mine did not move much at all but like any other animal if they see you or hear it they will move. The are as spooky as a mature wt or worse. I shot mine earlier this year at 35 yards or so and was 24" straight up.

Muzzy, I wouldn't worry about it. They jump so high when spooked, that if they do jump it's going to be a clean miss. I have seen a spooked BB go straight up over 6 feet!

Not really much you can do - if they jump, they jump. I wouldn't make any long bow shots, but if you are under 20 yards, even at 49 pounds, that arrow is going hit him before he can react.

But they are VERY skitterish and wary. They will pick up on any noise or movement.

Good luck - if you take a BB with a bow - that is a real accomplishment.

I have taken 10 of them with a bow. I never had one jump the string, so to speak. They are small and fast. I think you would be safe using a Rage BH. Even if you don't hit them well they will bleed out. Good luck son.

Put it right behind the shoulder in the armpit if you can. I shot a ram quartering towards and 8' up. Killed both lungs, sliced heart and liver. No blood trail, complete pass thru, died 35yd away. 47lb draw, 20-25yd.

Also shot a fallow doe right behind the shoulder. Double lung, groundblind, 17 yd. 35lb draw, ran 100yd and died.

Oh and btw i shoot 85gr Thunderheads. Roughly 200fps, using CE Thunderstorm; now i use 28" Bloodlines.
