I am going to order an ar and I am looking at the Bushmaster patrolman and it has the front sight on it with the removeable carry handel. My question is I have a 4.5 x 12x 40 leupold and can I mount it on the gun with that front sight or will the sight be in the way? Sorry I know there are a bunch of ar fourms out there I just wanted to know a quick answer if any one knows
Thanks Kevin

IF YOU WANT AN AR WITH A SCOPE I WOULD SUGGEST A 20" HB WITHOUT A FRONT OR REAR SIGHT JUST GET A FLAT TOP NO CARRY HANDLE. IF YOU WANT THE OPTION TO USE FIXED SIGHTS GET A RED DOT TYPE SCOPE AND SIGHTS THAT WILL MOVE TO A DOWN POSITION. JMOHO THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF VARIATIONS.

When you need a Piano moved there is always someone around to help you with the stool!

yeah I know there is a bunch of variations I am going to order a Bushmaster but I am just trying to figure out which one to get. I am going to use it for rec and some hunting. I guess I should just go with the optics ready one.

Yes, you can mount it. Yes, it will cut down a little of the light coming into the scope. Yes, the front sight can be changed to a railed gas block to mount a folding front sight on.

Sounds like a monstrous scope for that rifle, but if you've already got the scope you may as well use it.

You'd be surprised how little the front sight will obstruct your view. I'd say try it. The BUshy M4's are good guns, anyone that says otherwise is ill-informed or uninformed.

One thing I have seen done effectively, is mount the scope high on the rear handle, and have a co-witnessed red dot like a EOTech for the flat-top mount. Although its not perfect there is usually very little adjusting to do.

We have the guns on sale for $900 right now, less for the optics ready versions...

From a combat standpoint, I'd want the option of metal sights, for varmint hunting, it really wouldn't matter...

Let me know if we can help

Bushmasters are decent guns not top tier but decent. Look at the Sabre Defence guns. I own two and could not be happier. Bushmaster's quality has been slipping since they were acquired by Cerebrus last year. Look at the rough lower receivers they are turning out. They are really cutting corners these days. I would look at the Smith & Wesson too.

Spend the money and get a Trijicon ACOG. Well worth the money. The scope you have is not really usable for a variety of reasons. Sell it or save it for something else.

Avoid the S&W I know too many people that carry AR's for a living that have had numerous quality control issues. I would look at Rock River, Colt, Bushmaster first. Sabre defense has a decentproduct but is hardly top tier. If you want to spend a lttle more for top tier; LMT and Noveske are it.

The only reason I am getting a bushmaster is because I work for a dealer so I get a good deal on them. I was messing with one today at work and I could not even see the front sight with a scope on it. I am only useing that scope bc it is brand new and just sitting in the safe

I have an Eotech 512 on one of my Sabre rifles. The front sight is not noticeable when the Eotech is illuminated. I agree about LMT and Noveseke rifles, they have an excellent reputation they are also the top of the list in terms of price. Early S&W rifles were built by CMT and there were some quality issues they seem to have gotten that straightened out and the ones I've seen lately look good. Another good mid-priced gun would be Stag Arms. I have a Stag M4 upper on a Double Star lower that I just built. I plan on shooting it this weekend.

The Smith's we have turned out have been great. Have sold many and had NO-ZERO compaints, from LEO's or individuals.

I haven't noticed a difference in Bushmasters of late, but I will start checking closer to see.

EOTech's are a much different game than the true rifle scope... Properly mounted, they should co-witness with the front sight, or both sights in a flip-up configuration. I use an EOTech on our family M4's and love them, except for the price.

I had a Bushmaster 24" varmint with a 3.5-10x Leupold and had to work hard to see the front sight.... usually getting way too much eye relief and only at the lowest power setting...

I love the co-witness capabilities that the Eotech offers.

The great AR debate is just like a Ford v. Chevy v. Dodge argument. To each is to own. Good components make a good AR. I can build one up from top tier parts or go cheap. They'll both be good guns but the more you put into good parts the more reliable the gun will be in the long run.

I had an ACOG on my military issue M4 and lemme just say it worked very well. I you're looking to do some quick shooting with multiple rounds I wouldn't go with that scope. JMO

I have both, and under 200 yards, especially closer, I prefer the EOTech dramatically, in fact I prefer the AIMPOINT over the Trijicon...

The new and improved EOTech 557 with 4x FTS will end all debate...got to play with one, and have some on order, once the SOCOM contract is completed, I will get some. They are the best of both worlds...
