Hey i'm considering buying a new Remington 700 .308 for hogs mainly. which type of the Remington 700 is the best. There are 37 different types including the collector types. What do you recommend??

If you don't have to carry it far, the Sendero would probably be considered their non-custom shop top of the line. In a light hunting rifle, the Model 7 rather than the 700 is hard to beat.

okay thanks i'm also looking for one that doesn't kill my wallet, but i know good ones range in the 700-800$ am i correct?

Well, that's the hard part. The premium rifles will always be more $$$, so you have to decide your pain threshold when buying. There's absolutely nothing wrong with an entry level SPS or you can get a more upscale CDL. I'd go to a good gunshop and handle them in person. The Remington 700 should range from about $450-1200 depending on the model. The $450-$500 sale SPS is a **good** rifle; but you should kick a few tires before you buy.

Okay when I was looking most that i saw were under 1k and looked okay but none of them looked like they were perfect premium. Thank you for the input!!!!

For under $1K you should have lots of choices. Some possibilities include a Browning A- or X-Bolt or a Winchester Model 70 for something less than $700. But, the Remington 700 isn't bad, either and should cost a bit less.

Lotsa selection in .308, and I personally think it's an excellent caliber for hogs.

In order to determine which version, you need to decide on what features that you want and are willing to pay for. That will help determine the version.

I might suggest from the onset that you don't want a collector model for hog hunting. You likely don't want to be taking a collector grade gun after hogs in some of the places hogs go and keep the gun as a collector grade gun. That would be like throwing away money. So that would eliminate X number of choices alone.

Durn, a 700 ADL will work. Going to depend a lot on the person behind the trigher. And how much you want to spend.

Any Remington 700 in .308 you buy will kill hogs fine....and likely be good to go when you quit hunting. I prefer the black guns which offer the opportunity for instant backup shots when hunting hogs...but I realize that is a personal preference...

Depending on the ranges you're hunting at, ya' might look at a 740/7400/742 or a used 760/7600. 740 series has a bad reputation for jamming, though I've been shooting one since '73 and have not had any issues. Both are more accurate than they have a right to be.

Edited to add: If you can find a 760 in 35Rem, that's bad medicine for just about anything you'll come across.

get the 700P no contest.

Remington sps tactical for hogs is probably the best all around gun in my opinion. It is around $800. Short barrel and very accurate. You can also get the model that is threaded for a suppressor. I shoot a rem 700 varmint in .243. kills anything I point it at with the right shot placement and is fun to shoot up to 800yds. Of course I have spent a lot of $ on extra stuff to make the gun more accurate. Don't limit yourself to a .308

If you get it down to 2 or 3, pick the lighter one.

I have SPS tactical in 308 w/ 20 inch barrel. I also have a custom built remington 700 in 308. I use the SPS since it is lighter weight and shorter rifle. Its a tack driver with factory ammo and shoots about the same as my custom built rifle. For the price you pay you can buy some decent glass to put on it and stay under a thousand bucks. I have killed a ton of hogs and tried to justify buying a new rifle to use. The best gun I found for hogs has been a regular old 30-30

In my opinion a 243 will get the job done just as well as a 7mm mag....it all depends on how much meat you want destroyed.

Lead injection to the eye with my FNAR and you don't have to worry about destroying meat. Love the .308/7.62x51 round.
