The wife found him in the back yard yesterday. He spent some time for photo op and then off he went. When I was a kid these were everywhere and we used to catch them for fun and then let them go. Very docile and non aggressive guys.

The bigger ones can put a bite on you. We had lots of them in Wis. growing up. Buddy thought he spotted one under a pine and grabbed it by the tail. As it turned out the tail belonged to a chipmunk who was none to happy to be grabbed by the tail. We had one targeted but never caught it. It was over 3'. In Texas I saw more of the bright green grass sankes than Garters. Now those things were very docile. Thta is probably why you do not see them any more.

We've seen many this year compared to years past. Typically, we see your common rat snake, but for some reason, i've stubbled on quite a few of these this year. I had one come up out of the ground while weedeating a couple weeks back, and needless to say, the weedeater won.

Caught one growing up in Arkansas that was about 6 inches. 4 years later "Striker" was right at 2.5 feet. Fed him crickets, toads and minnows in his water bowl. One of the coolest pets I've ever had. My dad would tuck his shirt in and the snake would curl up on his belly and hang out...really freaked people out when he pulled a snake out of his shirt!
