I am about to buy a new .270. Looking at the Dakota 97, sako a7 and a browning x bolt with the carbon fiber stock. Are the Dakotas that much better than the other two? Is it worth the price difference? All of them have the synthetic stocks. Any help would be appreciated.

I had a X-bolt but was not pleased with it! I would suggest you to go for Sako,it shoots very well and has very smooth bolt action. If you wanna stay close to your budget, you can consider a gun broker.

The Dakota is more of a custom rifle compared to the other two so that is why the increase in price is there. That being said all three are nice rifles and at that point you have to decide which you like best.

If you're looking at Dakota or Cooper money for a rifle, I'd just have a custom rig built to your specs. There's a lot of really, really talented gunsmiths throughout the country. I'm currently having one built by RW Snyder, but have had experience with GA Precision as well as Southern Precision in Miami, FL.
That being said, I have an A-Bolt Medallion in .25-06 and couldn't be happier with it. Only modification it has is some glass bedding in the stock and mine's a sub-minute rifle.

If your spending that kind of cash I would suggest a custom Kampfeld or Hill Country Rifles. Google them they both have websites.
