Which one does everyone prefer? I'm new to deer hunting and hunting in general, just kind of curious as to what most everyone else has had more success with. I'm a sucker for everything I see that seems as 8f it'd be a good option. The powders that you pile up, the mineral lick blocks, the liquid attractant or even the acorn drop deal. Which ones should I invest my money in andwhich ones should I leave off my list? I try to also supplement with throwing corn out, but I'm only able to hunt public land so far so I'm trying to learn and make do as best as I can along the way. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've used the blocks before, but never really tried to set up a "site" before (just pitched them around the feeders). This year I used the deer cain liquid to establish a site away from feeders and then put the blocks in to maintain and I do have deer visiting the site daily. Actually, I get very little buck pics on my feeders, but the bachelor groups were hitting the mineral lick site. Surprised the heck out of me as I thought they were mostly a scam. Will be interesting to see if it holds up for the long run.

Trophy rocks have worked well for me and are quick and easy. A good do it yourself mineral site is dicalcium phosphate, trace mineral salt, and stock salt. 2:1:1. Add a little molasses. Big &j (carried at BPS) has a product with similar ingredients. I'm sure nutradeer (THF member) has a product too.

Get a few old bent car rims, usually free, they work good to set the blocks on. Paint them white, so you can see them easier at first light.

We use trophy rocks, the deer use them. Whether they do anything for the deer, I really don't know. But they can't hurt.

Don't go overboard because game's usage of them is highly dependent on their available native forage ant its associated mineral content. In my case, they will not touch them. Only way to tell is to try a few.

What would be a good block that cows won't mess with to much?

I think it depends on your area for the most part. All the blocks and powders have the same minerals in general, but if the deer are getting the minerals they need from native plant sources or local farmers they will walk by blocks and such. Now having said that I have use different ones throughout the years and when it's hot and dry with not much for them to forge they will hit them, sometimes. If its wet or catch enough rains to keep things semi green and fresh you might as well throw your cash on the ground and take your chances.
So think of it like this, they will only eat it if they need it, all you can do is pick one and see.

Would like to put a camera on a livestock mineral block on the ranch and see how many deer I would catch but sorting through 10,000 livestock pictures for a couple of deer shoots might take the fun of the chase away. Need to talk to someone at A&M about a project for a graduate student. grin

If it sounds too good to be true, probably is. Not to say deer won't use a mineral lick, but beware of advertising claims.

They tend not to mess with the ones you put behind a little circle of panels. It's a good trick for feeders, etc. Deer hop right over them, no trouble.

Hell, nothing short of a pack of terriers will keep coons off your property with any regularity.

Sure there is. But you can't talk about it on here...

I wouldn't waste the Cash, I like the Protein Tubs from Lyssy $ Eckel plus if you run out of Protein they hold you over.

Anybody see any noticeable difference in the size of the bucks on their land from using mineral wells or blocks? Thinking about setting some up for the 2014 season, come spring time.

Our deer in Shackelford county love the Swamp Donkey grains! We have tried just about everything with no luck. But the Swamp Donkey has stopped them in their tracks. They hammer it!

so far I've had good success with the buck jam liquids and the big&j cube. some of the little blocks have been pathetic at best. even the cows and hogs won't touch it. corn still seems to be the most preferred though, but I can at least get a few bucks to stop and look around with the buck jam liquid.

Alfalfa pellets are far better than corn anytime.
