The one thing that I got out of the video is that people shooting .22's need to always be aware of where they are shooting. Too many folks treat them as nothing much more powerful than pellet rifles. They are not toys.

My uncle Cleo was killed by one, a .22 rifle to be exact.

A .22 will kill you just as dead as a .45! It just takes a little longer. Seen it many times.

While it isn't normally my first choice, the gun in my closet for HD is a .22 with a 25rd mag filled with cci stinger. It is the best choice I had after a shotgun, and I ha to sell my only shotgun last week. The only other guns I have are a .22 bolt action, a 250-3000 lever action deer rifle.
The nice thing about a .22 is the speed at which you can deliver accurate shots. I could put 10 stingers in a mans chest in less than 3 seconds.

while I do think there are some better suited rounds for defense/hunting etc, the .22LR seems to get an unearned and overly bad rap. I had a gunshop rep tell me you cannot rely on .22 to kill a coon. In OK, the only legal round you can use on coon at night is the .22LR, and that's what most everyone uses day/night anyway.

.22 can do some damage. A friend of mine in HS was killed with a .22 by accident. It entered the left side of his rib-cage and he would have been alright if it hadn't bounced and came back through his chest. Never found out what happened or where the shot came from. I was shot in the calf by a .22 a couple years later. Same thing. I was walking along a creek and something stung my leg. I thought I was snake-bit at first. Never even heard a shot. I had good hearing back then, so it must have been a long ways away. I'm guessing the .22 "landed" on me.

The .22 boxes caution that the range of the bullet is 1 mile.

The .22 boxes caution that the range of the bullet is 1 mile. ive noticed they seem to ricochet more than the heavier rounds...when we break out the .22 plinkers, the "zingggg" sound of bullets ricocheting of the ground is common. Reminds me of the old western movies.

I don't think anyone ever though the .22lr wasn't lethal, it still doesn't make it ideal for defense.
Lots of bad guys have been filled with dozens of service pistol and rifle rounds and still being able to more and continue attacking. . . .
Though its kind of the last thing I'd shoot at an elephant.

Glad I had my feet up off the floor when reading the elephants killed with the 22lr. There isn't a 22 rimfire round made that can make it to the elephants heart. The poachers where we hunted in Zim use the AKs and some 303 British but all poacher weapons were of an ex-military supply somewhere since that is all available to them over there. Ever seen how thick the elephant skin is?

I had a friend that was shot in the stomach with a 22 and it never slowed him down. I saw another man (I was riding with a police officer) that had a 9mm (16 shots)emptied into him and didn't slow him down. They are both lethal at the right distance with proper placement. Do we discount any firearm? Depends on what and where we are going to use them and I ain't going bear hunting with a switch.

I cannot imagine emptying my clip of .45 Critical Defense rounds into any man, and that man still being able to come at me. Then again, I've always been a pretty good shot, and will likely aim for the head if my family is threatened.

I'm sure it will soon be touted as the ultimate deer cartridge... Is it better to hunt deer with as 22 LR semi-auto or bolt action?

Any intentional aim at the head is the poorest decision in shot placement a person could make. There's a time for bragadocious shots and a time for survival. Trying to make a head shot when the body mass shot is available is for TV, not the real world.
