Opening morning we were on a tank dam and doing quite well. Around 8:30 a big hawk flew into the very top of the only tree that was in the area....I didn't think anything of it, but was curious as to why he wasn't spooked by all of the shooting? Soon, a single flew between the tree and myself, nice right to left, pulled the trigger, and BOOM dove is down and now sooner than he hit the ground the hawk had swooped down on top of the dove. I yelled at him, he gave me the bird (pun intended) and took off with my actual bird! First time that has ever happened to me. Neat to see happen...but shocking.

Had that happen to me last year and it was pretty impressive. Wish I could have filmed it.

Very nice. Good memory of mother nature in action.

Had it happen to me yesterday morning also. Hawk came right over my shoulder and met the bird as it hit the ground. Wish I had a GoPro set up to catch the action.

We had a hawk swoop down on a mojo yesterday! Still has the claw marks on it!

So I take it you can't shoot them if they are taking off with your bird?

A few years ago while hunting some fields there was a stray dog with a pup hanging around. Same thing happened, the bird hit the ground she scooped it up and hauled off, it was pretty funny to us at the moment cause it was really slow that day.

I've seen a hawk catch my shot duck mid air. The hawk took flight as a group was landing he snatched him up as he was falling.....That hawk had learned that behavior by watching hunters at that same spot.

I would love to see that, I have seen hawks pick up quail and dove and one duck off the water. But seeing one catch one shot in mid air would awesome.

No, the hawk has to claim it on its DBL.

Had a similar thing happen to me. The difference was that the hawk was quicker on the trigger. Snatched the teal in midair before I even got a shot off. It was amazing to see.
